He may assume a similar role at least to start with the Ravens, but wide receivers Zay Flowers (shoulder) and Nelson Agholor (concussion) both being questionable ahead of Wednesday's outing could open up more opportunities for Sims.
The Texans waived Sims on Friday. Before being waived Friday, Sims appeared in seven games with the Texans in 2024, recording 195 kick-return yards and 99 punt-return yards across 72 total snaps (nine offensive and 63 on special teams). Sims could draw significant interest on the free-agent market from teams in need of a return specialist.
Sims (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Dolphins. Sims is a depth receiver behind a group of healthy starters and reserves in Nico Collins, Tank Dell, John Metchie, Robert Woods and Xavier Hutchinson. Even when Collins was out for five weeks with a hamstring injury, Sims only played on eight offensive snaps.
Sims (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's clash against the Titans. Sims was also a healthy scratch last week against Dallas. The veteran wideout has served as receiver depth while working primarily on special teams through much of the campaign, but the Texans have less need for his role with Nico Collins in his second week back from a stint on injured reserve. Even during the five weeks Collins was out, Sims logged just eight offensive snaps over three contests.
Sims returned three punts for 43 yards in Sunday's 26-23 loss to Detroit. Sims served as Houston's primary return specialist for the second consecutive week, although he didn't record a kickoff return. He played just two snaps on offense and has lined up on that side of the ball just 10 times in 2024. With Nico Collins (IR, hamstring) on the verge of returning, likely in Week 11, Sims' spot on the gameday roster may be in jeopardy.
Sims returned four kickoffs for 106 yards and one punt for zero yards in Thursday's 21-13 loss to the Jets in Week 9. Sims was the main returner for the night, as Houston was without Dameon Pierce (groin) and didn't want to expose Robert Woods in a game where the team's top two wideouts were not available. Sims played just six snaps on offense and has not yet been targeted in 2024.
Sims (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Colts. Sims wasn't able to play in Week 7 due to a back injury. He returned to practice this week and was able to participate without restrictions, but he will remain on the sidelines as a healthy scratch for Sunday's contest. Smith's next chance to suit up will be Thursday night against the Jets.
Sims (back) was a full practice participant Thursday. Sims was unable to play in Week 7 against the Packers due to a back injury. He was held out of practice Wednesday, but he was able to practice without restrictions Thursday. Unless he suffers a setback, Sims should be good to go for Sunday's AFC South clash against Indianapolis. Sims has logged 89 kick-return yards and 56 punt-return yards across five regular-season games this year.
Sims (back) was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's injury report. Sims suffered a back injury in the leadup to the Texans' Week 7 game against the Packers, which was severe enough for him to be sidelined. He'll have two more chances to practice in some capacity this week ahead of Houston's Week 8 AFC South clash against Indianapolis on Sunday.
