Legette (hip/wrist) was limited at Thursday's practice. After opening the week listed as a full participant Wednesday, Legette experienced a downgrade in his activity level one day later. Fellow wide receiver Adam Thielen also logged a limited practice Thursday due to a hamstring issue, placing a cloud over the status of the Panthers' top two wide receivers. Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not the pair enter the weekend with designations for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.

Xavier Legette Latest News
Limited Thursday

Legette (hip/wrist) was limited at Thursday's practice. After opening the week listed as a full participant Wednesday, Legette experienced a downgrade in his activity level one day later. Fellow wide receiver Adam Thielen also logged a limited practice Thursday due to a hamstring issue, placing a cloud over the status of the Panthers' top two wide receivers. Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not the pair enter the weekend with designations for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.
Listed as full to begin week

Legette (hip/wrist) is listed as full on Wednesday's injury report, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Carolina's injury report Wednesday is reflective of what the team did at Tuesday's practice, which was run at "half speed," according to coach Dave Canales. Those comments are two days removed from Canales telling Joe Person of The Athletic that Legette was "day-to-day" but would require "significant improvement" as the week went on to make himself available for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay. With a full session under his belt, Legette seemingly is on a path to doing so, but he may need to string together multiple uncapped practices as the weekend approaches to prove his health and keep his absence contained to just one game after missing his first game of the season Week 16 against Arizona.
Status in question for Week 17

Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Monday that Legette (hip) is day-to-day but added that the wideout will need "significant" improvement this week in order to suit up Sunday against Tampa Bay, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Legette may be showing improvement given Canales' description of his timeframe, as the wideout was deemed week-to-week last week. However, the rookie's status for Sunday remains very questionable given the head coach's additional comments. With Legette out this past Sunday versus Arizona, Jalen Coker served as Carolina's No. 1 wideout behind Adam Thielen while David Moore logged 89 percent of the team's offensive snaps and notched a receiving touchdown.
Not playing in Week 16

Legette (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Cardinals, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Legette departed last Sunday's loss to the Cowboys in the middle of the third quarter due to what was termed a groin injury at the time. However, the Panthers reclassified it to a hip issue on their first practice report of the week Wednesday, and he proceeded to miss all three Week 16 sessions. With Legette sidelined this weekend, Adam Thielen will be the clear-cut No. 1 WR for QB Bryce Young, while the next two options at the position -- Jalen Coker (quadriceps) and David Moore (concussion) -- both are questionable to suit up, which leaves Deven Thompkins and Dan Chisena as the other healthy receivers on the active roster.
Not practicing

Legette (hip) didn't practice Thursday. As expected, after Panther coach Dave Canales said Monday that Legette is considered week-to-week and isn't likely to play Sunday against the Cardinals. His likely replacement, David Moore, is currently in the concussion protocol and was a limited practice participant Wednesday and Thursday, potentially opening the door for Deven Thompkins, Dan Chisena or a practice-squad player to fill in at wide receiver alongside Adam Thielen and Jalen Coker (LP - quad).
No practice Wednesday

Legette (hip) didn't practice Wednesday. Legette made an early exit from this past Sunday's loss to the Cowboys due to a groin injury, but it's been reclassified as a hip issue on the Panthers' first Week 16 injury report. Coach Dave Canales told Steve Reed of the Associated Press on Monday that the Panthers consider Legette week-to-week and unlikely to play Sunday against the Cardinals, so his lack of on-field work Wednesday isn't a surprise. Considering those comments, the Panthers seem likely to rule out Legette by week's end.
Considered week-to-week

Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Monday that Legette (groin) is week-to-week and expected to be ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. Canales said he would "love to have a chance for [Legette] to finish the season strongly," but the rookie first-round pick is expected to miss at least one contest due to the groin injury he sustained during Carolina's 30-14 loss to the Cowboys in Week 15. If Legette indeed isn't able to suit up versus Arizona, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker and David Moore will be positioned as Bryce Young's clear top wide receivers, with Deven Thompkins acting in the No. 4 role.
Injures groin Sunday

Legette suffered a groin injury during Sunday's contest against the Cowboys, Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports. Before he departed in the middle of the third quarter, Legette had two catches (on three targets) for seven yards and one carry for two yards. For as long as Legette is sidelined, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker, David Moore and Deven Thompkins are the healthy and available wide receivers for the Panthers.
Set for offseason wrist surgery

Legette said Thursday that he plans to undergo surgery in the offseason to address ligament damage to his wrist, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer reports. Legette first injured the wrist during his third season of college at South Carolina in 2021 and suffered an aggravation in a Week 9 win over the Saints, but it hasn't resulted in him being limited over the Panthers' ensuing four games. He's not included on the Panthers' Week 15 injury report and should continue to play through the issue over the final four games of the season with no noticeable effects.
