Garrett sent a message to the Cleveland organization Friday that he does not want to endure another rebuild, Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reports. "I'm not trying to rebuild. I'm trying to win right now," Garrett said. "I want that to be apparent when the season's over and we have those discussions." Garrett is under team control for two seasons beyond the current one and has already been through one rebuild, which included his rookie season in 2017, when the Browns went 0-16. The star defensive lineman added that he wants to stay loyal to a team that has stuck by him, but Garrett, who turns 29 next weekend, is very much in "win now" mode. He cited the club's plans at quarterback as a major issue. Considering a failed gamble on Deshaun Watson, the uncertain status of running back Nick Chubb (foot), and a 3-11 record during a season that was supposed to include the postseason, the organization is need of a major roster makeover.

Sends message to organization

Past back issue

Garrett (back) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bengals, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Garrett popped up on the Browns' injury report Thursday as a non-participant in practice due to a back issue. However, he returned to full practice Friday, appearing to have moved past the injury in time to play in Sunday's divisional matchup. Expect Garrett to cause problems for the Bengals' offensive line in Week 16.
Dealing with back injury

Garrett (back) did not participate in Thursday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The back injury appears to be a new one for Garrett, as he wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report. The veteran pass rusher has worked through various injuries all season, and his practice participation Friday will indicate his status heading into Sunday's AFC North clash against the Bengals. Garrett has logged 4.0 sacks over the Browns' last five games since the Week 10 bye.
Records yet another sack

Garrett finished with three tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, and a fumble recovery in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers. The five-time All-Pro now has 11.0 sacks on the year, his seventh straight campaign with double-digit sacks. Garrett has 35 total tackles (29 solo) and three forced fumbles in 2024 as well.
Reaches double-digit sacks

Garrett recorded five tackles, 3.0 sacks and a forced fumble in Thursday's 24-19 win over Pittsburgh in Week 12. Garrett was a disruptive force against Cleveland's arch-rival, increasing his 2024 sack total to 10.0, his seventh consecutive season with double-digit sacks. His strip-sack of Russell Wilson late in the second quarter led to a field goal, giving the Browns a 10-3 lead heading into halftime. It was his third forced fumble of the season.
Will be available Thursday

Garrett (hip) does not carry an injury designation ahead of Thursday's game versus the Steelers, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Garrett was limited at practice Wednesday after missing Tuesday's session entirely with a hip injury, but he's on track to play in Week 12 anyway. He's currently on pace for his seventh consecutive season with double-digit sacks, and Pittsburgh's offensive line has shown some vulnerability in pass protection this year.
Doesn't practice Tuesday

Garrett (hip) did not practice Tuesday. Garrett, however, spoke with the media before practice and suggested he's going to play Thursday night against the Steelers, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Garrett has been battling various injuries all season. Through 10 games, Garrett has 23 tackles (21 solo), including 7.0 sacks, 15 QB hits and a pair of forced fumbles.
Dominant effort in loss

Garrett had five tackles, 3.0 sacks and five quarterback hits in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Chargers in Week 9. Garrett and his mates in the front seven rung up six sacks on the day, but the secondary let them down with blown coverages that led to two long touchdown throws from Justin Hebert. The three sacks were the first for Garrett since Week 4 and gave him 7.0 for the season.
Ready for Week 6

Garrett (Achilles) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Garrett upgraded from a DNP on Wednesday to a full practice Friday, indicating that he will continue playing through his Achilles injury in Week 6. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year has recorded nine total tackles, including 4.0 sacks, and forced two fumbles through the Browns' first five games this season. He's expected to cause problems for the Eagles' offensive line Sunday.
