The Texans removed Edwards' roster exemption Monday. The 30-year-old defensive lineman was reinstated from his four-game suspension by the NFL on Nov. 11, and his activation Monday suggests that he'll return for the Texans' Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys. Expect Edwards to serve as one of Houston's top rotational defensive lineman Monday night, having recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, through six appearances this season.

Mario Edwards Latest News
Set to return in Week 11

The Texans removed Edwards' roster exemption Monday. The 30-year-old defensive lineman was reinstated from his four-game suspension by the NFL on Nov. 11, and his activation Monday suggests that he'll return for the Texans' Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys. Expect Edwards to serve as one of Houston's top rotational defensive lineman Monday night, having recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, through six appearances this season.
Reinstated by NFL

The NFL reinstated Edwards from his four-game suspension Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Edwards was suspended Oct. 14 for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, but he's since served his time and missed the Texans' last four contests. The veteran defensive lineman recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and one pass defended through six appearances before his suspension. He's expected to play in Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys; however, he must still be activated to the Texans' active roster in order to suit up.
Placed on Reserve/Suspended list

The Texans placed Edwards on the Reserve/Suspended list Monday. Edwards was officially taken off the active roster after it was announced earlier Monday that he would be suspended for four games without pay for violating the NFL's substance of abuse policy. In the 30-year-old's absence, Tim Settle will likely start at defensive tackle in his place.
Suspended for four games

Edwards was suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL's substance of abuse policy Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Edwards has appeared in all six of the Texans' games this season, recording 15 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and defending one pass. The Florida State product will be eligible for reinstatement ahead of Houston's Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys on Nov. 18.
Records sack versus Colts

Edwards logged three tackles (two solo), with a sack, in the Texans' 29-27 win versus Indianapolis on Sunday. Edwards recorded one of Houston's two sacks Sunday while starting in place of Denico Autry who's currently serving a six-game PED suspension. The 30-year-old should continue to see increased playing time until Autry's suspension comes to an end.
In for larger role

Edwards is expected to start in place of Denico Autry, who will serve a six-game PED suspension to begin the Texans' 2024 campaign, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Edwards hasn't seen much of the field over the last three seasons, starting just nine games during that span, but he's set for a larger role now that Autry has been suspended. Last year, Edwards appeared in 15 games and played 392 defensive snaps for the Seahawks, posting 21 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and one forced fumble. He's now expected to line up alongside Danielle Hunter to begin the Texans' 2024 season.
Signing with Houston

Edwards is in line to sign a one-year contract with the Texans, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. In 15 regular-season games with the Seahawks in 2023, Edwards recorded 21 tackles and two sacks. Per Wilson, the 30-year-old is viewed as a strong fit in the Texans' 4-3 defensive scheme, with Edwards' ability to play all over the defensive line an asset to a unit that also currently includes Danielle Hunter, Will Anderson, Denico Autry, Khalil Davis, Tim Settle and Folorunso Fatukasi.
Visits Houston

Edwards (knee) had a visit with the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Edwards missed the final game of the 2023 season due to a knee injury. His visit in Houston indicates he has put that injury behind him. The journeyman recorded 21 tackles (15 solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble across 15 games for Seattle last season. He is now looking for a new opportunity.
