He then signed with the Bears but was unable to beat out Tyson Bagent for QB2 duties behind No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams. Rypien went 24 of 34 passing (70.6 percent) for 335 yards and three touchdowns this preseason. It was a strong enough showing to possibly get Rypien a look elsewhere as a top backup.
