Carlson went 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts and missed his lone extra-point attempt during the Jets' 19-9 loss to the Rams on Sunday. Carlson missed his only extra-point try of the game late in the first quarter following the Jets' 14-play, 99-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams. Carlson made a 21-yard chip shot as time expired in the first half, but his 49-yard field-goal attempt late in the fourth quarter missed wide right, and it was a crucial miss as it prevented the Jets from reducing the deficit to one score. Sunday's loss could've been Carlson's last game with Gang Green, as head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Monday that the Jets are going to explore their options at kicker this week, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. The Jets don't have a kicker signed to the practice squad, but they will likely add one ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Bills on Sunday, Dec. 29.

Anders Carlson Latest News
Job in jeopardy following loss

First missed FG of 2024

Carlson made one of two field-goal attempts and all three PAT tries in Sunday's 32-25 win over the Jaguars. Carlson's miss from 48 yards in the fourth quarter marked his first missed field-goal attempt in six appearances between the 49ers and Jets this season, though he has had a pair of PATs go astray. He connected on a 43-yard try in the third quarter. The Jets haven't provided an update on Greg Zuerlein (knee) since the veteran kicker went on injured reserve Oct. 30, so Carlson's likely to remain the kicker against the Rams in Week 16.
Busy in Week 14 loss

Carlson made all four of his field-goal attempts and both PAT tries in Sunday's 32-26 overtime loss to the Dolphins. Carlson's leg strength wasn't tested, as his longest kick was a 42-yard field goal that put the Jets up by three with 52 seconds left in the fourth quarter. He demonstrated strong accuracy, but it was all for naught, as Miami tied it up in the final seconds of regulation before scoring a walk-off touchdown in overtime. Carlson could be busy again in Week 15, giving him fantasy streaming appeal against the 3-10 Jaguars.
Minimal volume in loss

Carlson didn't attempt a field goal and made one of two PAT attempts in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Seahawks. Carlson's PAT attempt was blocked after the Jets' first touchdown, so the Jets went for two after one of their other two scores. He also recovered a fumble by Seahawks kickoff return man Laviska Shenault. Greg Zuerlein (knee) is eligible to come off IR in Week 14 against the Dolphins, but if the veteran isn't ready to return, then Carlson would continue to kick for the Jets.
Joins 53-man roster

The Jets signed Carlson to the 53-man roster Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Carlson joined the Jets' practice squad Nov. 8 and was elevated ahead of this past Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Colts. After converting all five of his kicks (three extra points, two field goals) -- including a career-long 58-yard boot -- the second-year pro will now gain some job security. At least while Greg Zuerlein (knee) remains on injured reserve, Carlson should retain the Jets' kicking job.
Makes 58-yarder in loss

Carlson made both of his field-goal attempts and all three of his PAT attempts in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Colts. Carlson's strong performance in his Jets debut was a small silver lining as New York fell to 3-8. He made a career-long 58-yard field goal in the third quarter and added a 35-yarder in the fourth. Carlson's trying to get his career back on track after missing six of 33 field-goal attempts and five of 39 PATs in his rookie regular season with the Packers in 2023.
Set to start Sunday

Carlson was elevated from the practice squad Saturday. Thus, Carlson will become the Jets' fourth starting kicker in as many weeks. With Spencer Shrader signed away from the team's practice squad by the Chiefs earlier this week, it stands to reason Carlson could be the team's starter for the immediate future, or at least until Greg Zuerlein (knee) potentially returns off injured reserve. Carlson was erratic in his first year with the Packers, but he was much better in his two starts with the 49ers earlier this year, making all five of his field-goal attempts while missing one of four extra-point attempts.
Likely to kick for Jets in Week 11

The Jets are expected to elevate Carlson from their practice squad to handle kicking duties in Sunday's game against the Colts, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Carlson will likely become the Jets' fourth kicker in four games, with Riley Patterson and Spencer Shrader having been moved up from the practice squad in Weeks 9 and 10, respectively, after Greg Zuerlein (knee) was moved to injured reserve following Week 8. Riley Patterson was cut after Week 9, and though Shrader was likely the Jets' preferred choice to kick against Indianapolis, he's being signed to the Chiefs' 53-man roster. Zuerlein won't be eligible to return from IR until Week 14, so Carlson could be in store for at least a two-game run as the Jets' kicker. Carlson previously went 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts in two games with the 49ers earlier this season, but he was erratic during his time with Green Bay as a rookie in 2023, missing 13 kicks (seven field goals, six extra points) across 19 combined regular-season and playoff appearances.
Signs to Jets' practice squad

The Jets signed Carlson to their practice squad Friday. Carlson looks like the favorite to kick for the Jets on Sunday against the Cardinals after the team waived Riley Patterson in a separate move Friday. Carlson kicked in two games for the 49ers in Weeks 7 and 8, but he was cut earlier in the week with Jake Moody (ankle) looking ready to return. Carlson went five-for-five on field goals for San Francisco and made three of his four extra-point tries.
