The Seattle Seahawks are starting to carve out a lead on the rest of the NFC West, but the team may have their eyes on one of their rival’s star receivers. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio believes the Seahawks are a potential landing spot for Deebo Samuel if the San Francisco 49ers look to explore a potential blockbuster trade this offseason. The insider added that the timing of ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s report about the Seahawks’ interest in Samuel is notable.

“The item is far more interesting for what it reports than what it could mean. The timing of the disclosure, tied to the latest Seahawks-49ers game, could be a hint to Deebo that, if/when the 49ers move on from him after the season via trade or release, Seattle will be interested,” Florio wrote in a November 17, 2024, story titled, “Five-year-old Deebo Samuel/DK Metcalf scoop possibly points to more scoops to come.”

Samuel’s three-year, $71.5 million contract is slated to run through the 2025 season. San Francisco has an out in Samuel’s deal this offseason but would take a massive $31 million dead cap hit by releasing the star, per Spotrac. The Niners playmaker would likely generate trade interest if the team looked to move on from Samuel when the season ends.

Could the Seahawks Explore Trading DK Metcalf?

The NFL insider is curious if the Seahawks would explore trading DK Metcalf if the franchise were to strike a trade for Samuel. The odds of landing Samuel given the 49ers are a rival are admittedly slim. Metcalf’s three-year, $72 million contract is also slated to run through the 2025 season.

“It also could be a hint to the league at large that Metcalf is available after the season, especially if the Seahawks can land Deebo,” Florio added. “Remember the report from Schefter at the trade deadline that ‘despite speculation,’ Metcalf won’t be traded? First, there was no credible speculation that he could be traded. Second, that might have been the first priming of the pump for someone to approach the Seahawks after the season.”

The Seahawks Attempted to Trade for Both DK Metcalf & Deebo Samuel Ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft: Report

Schefter reported that the Seahawks were attempting to land both Samuel and Metcalf in the 2019 NFL draft. Seattle tried to orchestrate a draft week trade to land Samuel, but a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders fell through.

“The Seattle Seahawks intended to draft both receivers in the second round that year and thought they had a deal in place to do it, league sources told ESPN on Saturday,” Schefter detailed in a November 16, article titled, “Sources: Seahawks eyed Deebo Samuel-DK Metcalf pairing in 2019 draft.”

“During the first round, the Seahawks traded pick No. 30 to the New York Giants for Nos. 37, 132 and 142 with the idea that — the next night — they would move back up from No. 37 to No. 35 to select Samuel. Shortly before the second round, the Seahawks had a trade worked out with the Raiders to move up to No. 35, with Samuel as the target,” Schefter continued.

“But before that trade was finalized, the Raiders instead decided to send the 35th pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor. To this day, the Seahawks don’t know why the Raiders reneged on the deal, according to sources.”

The advantage of Samuel is the 49ers utilize the playmaker as a receiver and, at times, like a running back. Samuel has only reached 1,000 receiving yards one time during his career.

Through his first 11 appearances in 2024, Samuel posted 38 receptions and 531 receiving yards and a touchdown. Samuel also has 27 carries for 79 yards and a TD. The Seahawks striking a trade for Samuel is likely a long shot but could make for interesting offseason chatter if the Niners do explore potential deals in the coming months.

Mike Macdonald and the Seattle Seahawks seem to finally be coming into their own this season.

After losing 5 out of 6, the Seahawks bounced back to win three in a row, and currently lie at the summit of the NFC West, albeit with just a singular, one-game lead.

With a critical matchup at the Arizona Cardinals looming on Sunday, Seattle will be looking to have all of its best pieces in place. Whilst injuries have not exactly ravaged the team, the Seahawks have had staters in safety, K’Von Wallace, and guard, Anthony Bradford; along with swing tackle, George Fant, all end up on IR.

Crucially, however, starting defensive end, Uchenna Nwosu, who signed a lucrative 3 year, $45 million extension with the team back in 2023, has just been activated off of injured reserve, per the Seahawks’ official X account.

Uchenna Nwosu has had a difficult time since signing his $15 million APY contract with Seattle. A disappointing, injury-riddled 2023 campaign ended with the former Charger generating just 2 sacks in 6 games for the Seahawks; whilst 2024 has been little better so far, with successive injuries limiting him to just one game this year.

A knee injury suffered in pre-season, followed by a thigh tear in Week 5 agains the New York Giants, have kept his appearances in 2024 to a minimum, but fit and healthy at last, Nwosu is ready to perform.

Speaking to Fox13, the former 2nd round draft pick had this to say about his bad injury luck over the past couple of seasons:

“It’s been tough. Pretty much my whole career I’ve dealt with little injuries there, but nothing that’s kept me out for this long.

I feel like it’s really things that has kind of been out of my control, especially with the knee injury that I had. And then one thing leads to another, so who knows? Kind of just refiguring myself out and just trusting my process and knowing that I know my career is going to be great.

I’m going to still be the same player I am and just continue to trust myself.”

Can The Seattle Seahawks Embrace Their Positive Momentum At The Most Important Point Of The Season

Mike Macdonald

GettyMike Macdonald

Head coach, Mike Macdonald may be a rookie, but he is certainly no stranger to the importance of playing well deep into the postseason. A heartbreaking AFC Championship loss in 2023, where his Ravens’ defense – as defensive coordinator – shut out Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, in the second half. A fantastic achievement, despite that offense’s inability to capitalize.

Nevertheless, a brutal Week 14 injury report, in which 9 starters were limited, or did not practice at all, sets the stage for a potential late season capitulation, even with a severely weakened NFC West that has seen last season’s NFC Champions, the San Francisco 49ers, and playoff contenders, the Los Angeles Rams, deteriorate over the past 12 months.

All eyes will be on Phoenix on Sunday, for a game that could well decide the fate of the NFC West.

The Seattle Seahawks currently sit atop the all-to-play-for, parity party that is the 2024 NFC West.

Despite a topsy-turvy start to the post-Pete Carroll era, in which Seattle started out a strong 3-0 before losing 5 of their next 6, the Seahawks have bounced back with 3 successive wins against the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets.

Head coach, Mike Macdonald, has managed to steady the ship, and returned Seattle to what it has been over the past two years in the Geno Smith experience – a slightly above average team with slightly below average entertainment value.

However, entering a crucial Week 14 game against division rivals, the 2nd placed Arizona Cardinals, Seattle are hoping that Macdonald might have an extra spark in his step as he prepares for Sunday, per the Seahawks’ official X account.

Mike Macdonald’s Wife Gives Birth To Their 1st Child

Mike Macdonald

GettyMike Macdonald became the Seattle Seahawks head coach in January 2024.

Macdonald had been away from the team since Monday, when longtime NFL defensive coordinator and former Minnesota Vikings head coach, Leslie Frazier – the team’s assistant head coach – answered media questions.

It was thought that the Seahawks’ rookie head coach would have potentially been away for longer, perhaps even missing the Week 14 game in Arizona, but smooth sailing on the medical front bought Macdonald back within 48 hours of his departure.

The former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator spoke to the media concerning his newfound experience Wednesday, per the Seattle Seahawks’ official website:

“Steph had our boy last night, and both are happy and healthy. That’s kind of a crazy statement to say out loud, but we’re really excited, really blessed obviously.

Man, what a woman can do is just an unbelievable thing. What a warrior she is, she’s awesome. I’ll see her later on here at the hospital, but it was an incredible night, I’m just thankful for everybody at the hospital.

The doctors, nurses, those people are A-plus-plus in what they do. It’s pretty awesome that’s what they do every day, the stuff they work through. Just really blessed, really excited, can’t wait to see him again tonight.”.

The Seattle Seahawks Hoping For A Coaching “Baby Bump”

Russell Wilson

GettyRussell Wilson with his wife, Ciara, and 3 children.

It’s a common adage in football, or indeed sports in general, that in the game following the birth of a player’s child, said player will often have an uncharacteristically strong game. In 2023 for example, both Kyle Pitts and Russell Wilson have both scored touchdowns immediately after the birth of their children.

With crunch time coming up in the final stretch of the regular, Seattle have started to ramp up the heat, cutting former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver, Laviska Shenault Jr. after he fumbled two kick returns on Sunday’s close 26-21 win in the Meadowlands against the New York Jets.

The Seahawks will hope that their reasonably strong start gets a final “baby bump” esque multiple-touchdown boost on Sunday, perhaps using Geno Smith as a proxy, who currently ranks 3rd in the NFL with 3,241 passing yards this season.

Former first round pick N’Keal Harry has been released from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad as part of the team’s roster moves ahead of their NFC West showdown with the Arizona Cardinals on December 8, 2024.

Harry, who was selected with the 32nd pick of the 2019 draft by the New England Patriots out of Arizona State as a wide receiver, transitioned to tight end ahead of the 2024 season. Harry previously spent time on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad this season. He signed with the Seahawks on November 11.

Harry was cut to make room for undrafted rookie center Mike Novitsky, according to Seahawks.com’s John Boyle. Novitsky signed with Seattle after the NFL Draft in April but was released before the start of the preseason and has not been with a team since. The Seahawks also added defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna back onto the practice squad, filling a spot that opened up when defensive lineman Myles Adams joined the Detroit Lions active roster.

The 7-5 Seahawks are set to face the 6-6 Cardinals in a key NFC West game on Sunday in Arizona.

N’Keal Harry Revealed He Was Moving to Tight End While With the Vikings

In June, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters Harry was making the position change from wide receiver to tight end. Harry spent parts of the 2023 season with the Vikings on their practice squad.

“N’Keal is really fired up about it. He has attacked the process, long before we even got started in the offseason program,” O’Connell told reporters, according to NBC Sports. “But you’re hoping to see the receiving traits lead the way early on, as they get a little more comfort in maybe having their hand down, being a part of run schemes, the different kind of run schemes that we’re implementing, and N’Keal has shown that.

O’Connell added, “At this stage in his career a position change is unique, but we’re hoping we’re developing a guy who can be a real third-down weapon, red-zone weapon, with his skill set.”

But things did not work out for the 26-year-old in Minnesota. Harry played in 3 preseason games with the Vikings, catching 4 passes on 7 targets for 60 yards. He did not make the Vikings’ 53-man roster, but spent seven weeks on Minnesota’s practice squad before he was cut on October 21.

Harry’s absence leaves the Seahawks with one tight end on their practice squad, Tyler Mabry, who signed with Seattle as an undrafted free agent from Maryland in 2020. Mabry has 1 NFL catch, a touchdown, which came on December 31, 2022, and has spent time on the Seahawks active roster this season. Seattle has four tight ends — Noah Fant, AJ Barner, Pharaoh Brown and Brady Russell — currently on the active squad.

Harry Has 5 Career Touchdown Catches, but Has Not Caught an NFL Pass Since 2022

Harry, who will turn 27 this month, played in 9 games for the Vikings in 2023, but did not record any offensive stats. In 2022, Harry spent a season with the Chicago Bears, playing in 7 games as a reserve wide receiver and catching 7 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Harry spent three years with the Patriots after he was drafted in 2019, with his best season coming in 2020 when he had 33 catches for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns. In his career, Harry has 64 catches for 714 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Patriots traded Harry to the Bears in July 2022 for a 7th round pick, according to ESPN.

The Seattle Seahawks did not wait long to send a message to the roster after the team’s bye week. Seattle released starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson days before the team’s Week 11 rivalry matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Heading into the bye, Seattle had lost five of the last six games, leaving the Seahawks searching for answers. Dodson started all nine games for Seattle prior to being released. The linebacker posted 71 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3 quarterback hits, 2 sacks and a forced fumble for the Seahawks.

Seattle signed Dodson to a one-year, $4.2 million contract with the Seahawks during the 2024 offseason. The Seahawks received some financial relief on the remainder of Dodson’s deal as the Miami Dolphins claimed Dodson off waivers.

“It’s clear Mike Macdonald wants to show players that they will start and earn playing time on merit, not on veteran status or contract,” Sports Illustrated’s Corbin Smith detailed in a November 11, 2024 message on X.

Mike Macdonald on the Seahawks Releasing Tyrel Dodson: ‘We’re Going to Give the Other [Linebackers] an Opportunity’

As is clear by Dodson’s release, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald was not pleased with the defender’s performance through the first half of the season. If the Seahawks are willing to cut a veteran starter, it sends a message to the rest of the roster that very few jobs are safe.

“We took a step back and realized where we were at,” Macdonald said, per Yahoo Sports. “It was the best thing for us to move forward [without Dodson]. We’re going to give the other [linebackers] an opportunity.

“I hope those guys grab the opportunity by the horns. This also gives Tyrel [Dodson] an opportunity to find another spot somewhere else so he can finish the season strong.”

Seahawks Starting Center Connor Williams Surprisingly Retired Days Before 49ers Game

It has been a week full of surprising roster moves for the Seahawks. Just days before the team’s squares off against the Niners, Macdonald announced that starting center Connor Williams is retiring from the NFL.

Williams was a late offseason addition to help Seattle bolster the center position. Olu Oluwatimi is expected to start at center for the Seahawks.

“Seahawks starting C Connor Williams has decided to retire, per coach Mike Macdonald,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport detailed in a November 15 message on X. “Just 27 years old, Williams has started every game for Seattle after overcoming a major knee injury from his time in Miami.”

Seattle now faces a lot of roster turnover at key positions heading into the team’s rivalry matchup versus the Niners. Macdonald hinted that the roster movement is less than ideal.

“Coach Mike Macdonald says of starting center Connor Williams suddenly retiring: ‘It’s out of everybody’s control. We’ve got to honor the situation,'” The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell detailed Macdonald’s tone in a November 15 note on X. “Of cutting a starting LB (Dodson), now Williams retiring in the same week: ‘It’s exactly how we planned it, drew it up.’ Wry smile.”

The Seahawks are a 6.5-point underdog versus the 49ers, per Action Network. Heading into Week 11, the Cardinals sit in first place in the NFC West at 6-4 as the Seahawks have some work to do given the team’s underwhelming 4-5 record.

According to a tweet from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Seattle Seahawks starting center Connor Williams has announced his retirement from the NFL at just 27 years old. Williams’ decision comes as a surprise, given his impressive comeback from a significant knee injury during his time with the Miami Dolphins.

Williams joined the Seahawks after his tenure with the Dolphins, where he transitioned from guard to center and showcased his versatility. Despite suffering a major ACL injury in Miami, he worked diligently through rehabilitation and returned to full form, securing a starting role in Seattle. Since joining the Seahawks on a one-year contract in free agency, Williams has been a cornerstone of their offensive line, starting every game this season and demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication.

His early retirement marks the end of a promising career defined by perseverance and consistent performance. Williams’ departure leaves a gap in the Seahawks’ offensive line, and the team will now look for solutions to fill the void. Although he has had a short career, he leaves the NFL with a legacy of determination and excellence in the face of adversity. His retirement underscores athletes’ challenges and tough decisions in balancing health, longevity, and career.

Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald on Connor Williams’ Retirement

Mike Macdonald spoke with the press after the Seahawks’ Friday, Nov. 15 practice and touched on Williams’ decision.

“Connor, earlier this week, decided to retire. Personal reasons, we respect that, wish him the best, and we’ve got to move forward.”

Citing privacy, Macdonald would not divulge the aspects of his conversation with Williams, but he did mention that the decision was unrelated to the ACL injury that cut short his 2023 season in Miami.

“It’s been a process throughout the week,” Macdonald said. “We’ll make the necessary roster moves tomorrow, all the designations and things like that. That will happen tomorrow, I believe.”

Williams’ unexpected retirement was the second big change to the roster this week, following the Seahawks’ decision to waive starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson on Monday, Nov. 11. Despite these significant changes, Macdonald said it’s not been a distraction for the team.

Seattle Seahawks Depth Chart After Connor Williams Retirement

Following Williams’ abrupt retirement, second-year center Olu Oluwatimi defaults to starting center. Selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Oluwatimi has appeared in 20 games with one start. Behind Oluwatimi is Jalen Sundell, a product of North Dakota State signed by Seattle as an undrafted free agent in 2024.

“Olu will play center for us right now, and we’re excited for his opportunity,” Macdonald said. “Just like all the other young guys who have had opportunities, Olu’s right there, he’s been working his tail off, and he’s got a great opportunity. We’re excited to see him play.”

Before adding Williams in mid-August, Oluwatimi was working with the first-team offense in training camp.

“He’s a guy that’s been knocking on the door for a while. Obviously, it’s an unforeseen circumstance that you’ve got to take on head-on, but the silver lining in the whole thing is that we get to see Olu go do his thing. This guy’s been working really hard, basically started at center for us the whole offseason until we signed Connor, so we’ve had a really good week of practice with Connor not here, and onward we go.”

The Seattle Seahawks have had a busy weeks of roster moves, and one addition may be flying under the radar. Seattle took a flier on former first-round pick N’Keal Harry, adding the receiver/tight end to the team’s practice squad.

“The 2019 first-round pick converted to TE from WR this past spring with the Vikings, who cut him from their practice squad last month,” ESPN’s Brady Henderson detailed in a November 12, 2024, message on X. “Seattle lists him at 6-3/228.”

It is one of several roster moves the Seahawks made coming out of the team’s bye and ahead of their rivalry showdown against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11. Seattle is a 6.5-point road underdog versus San Francisco in the NFC West clash.

The New England Patriots selected Harry with the No. 32 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. Harry entered the NFL as a highly touted prospect out of Arizona State, but unfortunately the 6-foot-3 receiver has been unable to live up to the lofty expectations.

The receiver’s best NFL season came in 2020 when Harry posted 33 receptions for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns in 14 appearances for the Patriots during the 2020 season.

New Seahawks Addition N’Keal Harry Has Played Both Wide Receiver & Tight End

What are the Seahawks getting with the addition of Harry? Given this is a practice squad signing, it is a low-risk move that could potentially have a high reward given his strong pedigree. Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard explained why the Seahawks’ signing Harry offers plenty of intrigue.

“Being a former first-rounder and having some great measurables, it will be I think at least worth a look to see if we can get more dynamic play out of that position,” Huard explained during a November 13, episode of “Brock and Salk.”

“… What you’re looking for is what you hope to see more of from Noah Fant, who is so fast and on paper and so explosive and yet … you’d like to see a little more playmaking out of (him). So I think that’s what this is. This is a little look at: Can this guy bring some of that playmaking when we get him the ball? Can he break a tackle or is he gonna be just a get-what’s-there kind of guy”

Heading Into the 2019 NFL Draft, N’Keal Harry Drew Comparisons to Allen Robinson

Harry had two straight seasons topping 1,000 receiving yards for Arizona State. Heading into the 2019 draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Harry to Allen Robinson.

“Back-shoulder boss who thrives with contested catch opportunities outside the numbers but lacks explosive traits,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile of the playmaker. “Harry’s ability to body-up opponents and win with ball skills is undeniable, but his inability to find a threatening top gear or shake loose from tight man coverage must be accounted for within his new employer’s scheme.

“His experience playing inside should help and teams will love his impact as a run-blocker. His competitiveness and ability to come down with the ball could make him a productive member of wide receiver trio in short order.”

The good news for the Seahawks is the team is deep at both wide receiver and tight end. Anything Harry can offer the team this season would be an added bonus.

After starting the season 3-0, the Seattle Seahawks are now in the NFC West basement, looking up at two division rivals—the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals—that are on win streaks.

Seattle needs to urgently do something to change their fortunes, starting with the offensive line. With injuries and inconsistent play plaguing this position, adding a seasoned guard could boost the team in both pass protection and run blocking.

Right now, the line struggles to keep defenders out of the backfield, forcing quarterback Geno Smith to rush his throws and limiting opportunities for big plays downfield. On the ground, a solid guard could also open up more running lanes for Kenneth Walker III, allowing the offense to establish a more potent, balanced attack.

Corbin K. Smith, Seahawks’ beat writer for Sports Illustrated, tweeted on Wednesday, Nov. 13, that Seattle “absolutely should be kicking tires” on guard Nate Davis should he clear waivers.

From Titans to Bears to Waivers: Nate Davis’ Journey in the NFL

On Wednesday, the Chicago Bears released Davis, a former third-round draft pick. Davis was selected by the Tennessee Titans at No. 82 in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he spent four seasons, appearing in 55 games with 54 starts. According to Pro Football Reference, Davis played nearly 100 percent of offensive snaps with the Titans.

Quickly establishing himself as a starting guard, Davis became known for his powerful run-blocking, which was crucial to the Titans’ run-heavy offense anchored by Derrick Henry. His physicality and tenacity on the line helped create significant rushing lanes, making Tennessee one of the league’s top rushing teams. Davis was also effective in pass protection, though he occasionally struggled with consistency. His reliability and aggressive play made him a mainstay on the offensive line, contributing significantly to Tennessee’s playoff runs during his tenure.

However, the Titans were in a sticky salary cap situation, and Davis was a casualty. The Bears signed the free-agent offensive lineman to a three-year $30 million contract (with 19 million in guarantees). Unfortunately, his time in the Windy City was plagued by repeated practice absences and multiple nagging injuries.

But Davis wasn’t the only one.

After three straight losses led them to a 4-5 record, Chicago is cleaning house. On Tuesday, Nov. 12, all 13 of head coach Matt Eberflus’ assistants, including Seattle’s former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, were fired.

Time Is Now for the Seattle Seahawks

With the NFL trade deadline come and gone, should Seattle want to add an offensive lineman, free agents are the only way to go. If the Seahawks claim Davis, it would have to pay him the guaranteed $3.9 million remaining on his current contract.

Signing a player with proven skills and experience would stabilize the line and, more importantly, give the offense a chance to keep up with the scoring pace set by top NFC teams. With the playoffs on the horizon, the Seahawks can’t afford to wait around and hope the current lineup steps up; they need to act now. Bringing in a capable guard would be smart, giving them a better shot at making a deep playoff run.

But is Davis that capable guard?

The Bears benched Davis after two lackluster starts in 2024. In 13 total starts, Davis allowed 26 QB hurries and 35 QB pressures. But his performance could be system-based.

Maybe a change of scenery is exactly what Davis needs. After all, he played well in Tennessee.

The Seattle Seahawks are being pushed to move on from one of the team’s stars ahead of the November 5, 2024, NFL trade deadline. The Washington Post’s Jason La Canfora reported that several NFL teams made calls to the Seahawks about star receiver DK Metcalf’s potential availability.

“And brace yourself for DK Metcalf to become this week’s [Cooper] Kupp, the subject of plenty of chatter,” La Canfora wrote in an October 29, 2024, story titled, “As NFL trade deadline nears, more wide receivers could be on the move.” “Enterprising general managers are reaching out to Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider, as they have in the past. Seattle has two other quality wideouts, and Metcalf’s contract makes him the most obvious to deal — if any wide receivers are to be dealt — but interested parties aren’t optimistic.”

While there are plenty of NFL trade rumors, Seahawks fans can breathe easy as it does not appear that Seattle shares the same desire. The NFL insider added that general manager John Schneider is not expected to deal Metcalf despite the increased interest around the league.

“Metcalf is one of Schneider’s favorite players, and at 4-4 [now 4-5], the Seahawks remain in the playoff hunt despite losses in three of their past four games,” La Canfora added. “But widespread injuries have increased demand for receiving help, and the deals already made have diminished the supply. With a rookie coach, Seattle is looking for long-term assets, so if nothing else, Schneider will have plenty to mull.”

DK Metcalf Is Headed Towards a Lucrative New Contract

If the Seahawks did have a change of heart, what would be the advantage of trading Metcalf? The star playmaker is on a three-year, $72 million contract that is slated to run through the 2025 season. This means Metcalf is headed for a lucrative contract extension sooner rather than later.

There is an argument to be made that Seattle could be better served to use this money at another position of need. Jaxon Smith-Njigba has emerged as a legitimate receiving threat as well.

Why Would the Seahawks Consider Trading DK Metcalf?

Seattle Sports’ Mike Salk made the argument for the Seahawks exploring potential deals for Metcalf. The analyst suggested that the Seahawks move on from Metcalf and replace the wideout with a rookie receiver.

“DK is a really good player who plays a position that many of the teams in the NFL value quite highly,” Salk detailed in an Oct. 16, article titled, “Salk: Why Seahawks should explore a DK Metcalf trade.” “[Mike] Macdonald says he is looking to build a team built on physicality, but that team doesn’t have particularly physical players on his offensive line.

“Why not let a team that is committed to a more finesse style pay for DK’s services and take advantage of their need by acquiring a draft haul that you can turn around and use to bring in the types of players you want?”

The Seahawks do have plenty of holes on the roster, but trading Metcalf would create another one. As Seattle has witnessed, there is no guarantee that rookie offensive linemen will pan out in the NFL.

Comparatively, Metcalf is a known commodity, even if his price tag is likely to go up. This will not stop opposing NFL teams from calling the Seahawks at the deadline about Metcalf and attempting to revisit trade talks this upcoming offseason.

The Seattle Seahawks face a decision ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 5, 2024, as to whether to make additional moves to bolster the roster. Seattle Sports’ Mike Salk is suggesting the Seahawks move on from one of the faces of the franchise.

Salk is urging the Seahawks to trade fan favorite DK Metcalf. The Seattle Sports radio host floated the idea of the Seahawks trading Metcalf for future first and third-round picks. It remains to be seen if Metcalf could net this kind of return in a potential deal.

In the poll posted on X, fans appear to be nearly split on the idea with 60% being in favor of this trade, while close to 40% voted against the Metcalf deal. Metcalf is slated to be a free agent after the 2025 season, and Salk makes the argument that the star’s salary would be better utilized at another position of need.

Here’s what you need to know about a potential Metcalf trade.

Seahawks Star DK Metcalf Is Slated to Have a $31.8 Million Cap Hit in 2024

Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million contract with the Seahawks. The star’s cap hit is slated to jump up from $15 million in 2024 to $31.8 million in 2025.

“If you’ve listened to me for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard me mention this idea,” Salk wrote in an October 16, story titled, “Salk: Why Seahawks should explore a DK Metcalf trade.” “You might think I have a personal vendetta against him (I don’t) or that I don’t think he is a great receiver (I think he is a very good one). What I do think is that he plays a position that can get incredibly expensive and isn’t the best way to spend the huge dollars he is going to want in his next contract.

“Currently, DK is in the second season of a three-year extension worth an average of $24 million per year. That puts him 13th in the league at the position, but each of the 12 players above him have signed deals that last until after DK’s is up,” Salk continued.

“That puts him in line for a payday that could add $6-10 million a year to his current number and make him the highest paid player on the team. No thanks.”

Why the Seahawks Should Not Consider Trading DK Metcalf

Seattle does have plenty of holes on the roster, including a suspect offensive line and a defense that head coach Mike Macdonald is trying to make his own. It is true that the Seahawks have several additional playmakers, including Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett.

Yet, we have also seen the impact Metcalf can make when on the field. Metcalf made his presence felt against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7 by catching a touchdown pass while draped by three defenders just seconds before halftime to name one recent example.

With Metcalf out of the lineup versus the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, the Seahawks offense struggled, scoring just one touchdown in a 31-10 blowout loss. As Metcalf heads for a contract extension, there are important conversations to be had about the playmaker’s next deal.

It is hard to imagine there not being some level of regret by the Seahawks if the team moves on from Metcalf.

The post The 10 Best Seahawks Quarterbacks of All Time, Ranked appeared first on Heavy Sports.

Throughout their history, the Seattle Seahawks have featured an intriguing lineup of quarterbacks. While only a few have solidified themselves as the franchise leader—namely Russell Wilson, Matt Hasselbeck, and possibly Geno Smith—many others have had flashes of greatness that helped shape the overall narrative of the Seahawks franchise.

Because the Seahawks don’t have a long list of franchise quarterbacks, choosing the top 10 in team history was a challenging task.

We focused on players who made a significant impact during their time in Seattle, considering both their regular-season performances and their contributions in the playoffs. Here’s a look at who we selected.

*Note: All titles, awards and stats listed below are from each player’s tenure with the Browns only. All stats are from Pro Football Reference unless otherwise stated.

10. John Friesz

john friesz

GettyJohn Friesz.

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1995-1998
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 22 games
    • 2,971 passing yards
    • 16 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On November 3, 1996, in a game against the Houston Oilers, he compiled 323 passing yards, the most he had in a single game as a Seahawk, and completed 63% of his passes, including 1 touchdown.

There were a few options we could have considered for the No. 10 spot, such as Trent Dilfer or Kelly Stouffer. However, given that Friesz has a positive touchdown-to-interception ratio, and few other Seahawks quarterbacks outside our top nine can make that claim, we believe Friesz is a solid choice to kick off the list.

9. Seneca Wallace

seneca wallace

GettySeneca Wallace.

  • Years as a Seahawk: 2005-2009
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 48 games
    • 3,547 passing yards
    • 25 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 4 games (backup)
  • Iconic performance: On December 7, 2008, in a game against the New England Patriots, he completed an efficient 71.43% of his passes for 212 yards with 3 touchdowns. Despite Wallace’s great performance, the Seahawks fell to the Patriots 24-21.

Despite being a backup during his time with the Seahawks Wallace still recorded 3,547 passing yards with 25 passing touchdowns. Wallace’s reputation as a dual-threat quarterback along with being part of some big moments such as catching a pass from Matt Hasselbeck in a playoff game is why he is worthy of the No. 9 spot on our list.

8. Jon Kitna

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1997-2000
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 39 games
    • 7,552 passing yards
    • 49 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 1 game
    • 162 passing yards
    • 1 passing touchdown
  • Iconic performance: On October 24, 1999, in a game against the Buffalo Bills, he threw for 276 yards with 2 touchdown passes and got the win for the Seahawks.

Kitna played for the Seahawks from 1997 to 2000. Like several other names on the list, Kitna’s best years came elsewhere, but he contributed to the team’s growth during his tenure and remains an important part of Seahawks history landing him at the No. 8 spot on our list.

7. Warren Moon

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1997-1998
  • Championships and Awards:
    • 1-time Pro-Bowl
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 25 games
    • 5,310 passing yards
    • 36 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On December 21, 1997, in a game against the San Francisco 49ers, he had 4 touchdown passes on 64% passing and finished with 232 passing yards.

Despite only playing two seasons with the Seahawks, Moon is a deserving candidate for our list. Over 25 regular-season games, he threw for 5,310 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. While his tenure with the Seahawks was short, his 1997 Pro Bowl season was enough to put him at the No. 7 spot on our list.

6. Rick Mirer

rick mirer

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1993-1996
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 55 games
    • 9,094 passing yards
    • 41 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On September 11, 1994, in a game against the Los Angeles Raiders, he threw for 242 yards, completed 73.08% of his passes and threw 3 touchdown passes.

It was a tough decision to place Mirer over Moon, who had a Pro Bowl season with the Seahawks. However, it came down to games played, and Mirer’s 55 games rank fifth all-time for Seahawks quarterbacks. While his time with the team was relatively brief it was good enough to secure him the No. 6 spot on our list.

5. Jim Zorn

jim zorn

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1976-1984
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 126 games
    • 20,122 passing yards
    • 107 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 5 games
    • 134 passing yards
    • 2 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On October 30, 1977, in a game against the Buffalo Bills, he threw 4 touchdown passes and ran for another with 296 yards passing in a 56-17 victory.

Zorn is an interesting choice on our list. Despite his relatively low statistics for the number of games he played, he was the Seahawks’ first quarterback, serving from 1976 to 1984. He laid the groundwork for future quarterbacks, and his contributions to the team’s early history remain significant putting him at No. 5 on our list.

4. Geno Smith

geno smith

GettyGeno Smith.

  • Years as a Seahawk: 2020-present
  • Championships and Awards:
    • 2-time Pro-Bowl
    • Comeback Player of the Year (2022)
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 43 games
    • 10,419 passing yards
    • 61 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 1 game
    • 253 passing yards
    • 2 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On November 12, 2023, in a game against the Washington Commanders, he threw for a career-high 369 yards completing 31 of 47 passes with 2 touchdowns in a 29-26 win.

Smith is an exciting addition to our list, as he has quickly established himself since joining the Seahawks in 2020. He has earned Pro Bowl honors twice and was named the Comeback Player of the Year in 2022. With his impressive trajectory, Smith is making a strong case for his place in Seahawks history and could move up our list if he puts in a few more good seasons in Seattle. But for now, he is at the No. 4 spot.

3. Dave Krieg

dave krieg

GettyDave Krieg.

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1980-1991
  • Championships and Awards:
    • 3-time Pro-Bowl
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 129 games
    • 26,132 passing yards
    • 195 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 7 games
    • 1,242 passing yards
    • 9 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On December 18, 1988, in a game against the Los Angeles Raiders, he threw for 410 yards and four touchdowns in a 43-37 victory.

Krieg is a solid choice for the No. 3 spot on our list. His 26,132 passing yards rank third in franchise history and his 195 touchdown passes are good enough for second-most in franchise history. He played for the Seahawks from 1980 to 1991 and earned Pro Bowl honors three times. While he may not have the same accolades as the top two, in terms of Super Bowl appearances, his contributions to the Seahawks’ legacy are undeniable.

2. Matt Hasselbeck

matt hasselbeck

GettyMatt Hasselbeck.

  • Years as a Seahawk: 2001-2010
  • Championships and Awards:
    • 3-time Pro-Bowl
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 138 games
    • 29,434 passing yards
    • 174 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 11 games
    • 2,741 passing yards
    • 18 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: On September 24, 2006, in a game against the New York Giants, he threw five touchdown passes, tying the Seahawks franchise record for touchdown passes in a single game.

Hasselbeck is the clear choice for the No. 2 spot on our list, as his 29,434 passing yards rank second in franchise history, behind Russell Wilson. He led the Seahawks to the 2006 Super Bowl, ultimately losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and earned Pro Bowl honors three times. While Krieg may have thrown more touchdown passes, Hasselbeck’s success in the postseason gives him the edge over Krieg.

1. Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson

  • Years as a Seahawk: 2012-2021
  • Championships and Awards:
    • 1-time Super Bowl Champion
    • 9-time Pro-Bowl
  • Career regular season stats:
    • 158 games
    • 37,059 passing yards
    • 292 passing touchdowns
  • Career postseason stats:
    • 16 games
    • 3,786 passing yards
    • 25 passing touchdowns
  • Iconic performance: Wilson’s most iconic performance was on Nov. 23, 2016, in a game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. He went 25 of 37 for 348 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Wilson left a lasting impact on the franchise. During his tenure, he led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl victory and earned Pro Bowl honors nine times. His status as the franchise leader in passing yards and touchdowns, combined with his role in the 2013 team that defeated the Denver Broncos in the 2013 Super Bowl, is why he tops our list of the best Seahawks quarterbacks of all time.

The Seattle Seahawks made a trade acquiring Tennessee Titans linebacker Ernest Jones IV in exchange for the team’s own starting linebacker Jerome Baker and a future fourth-round pick, per ESPN’s Brady Henderson. It is one of the first significant moves we have seen under Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald.

The Seattle coach appears to prefer Jones over Baker, who the franchise signed to a one-year, $7 million deal this offseason. Jones is coming off a career-high 145 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6 quarterback hits and 4.5 sacks in 15 starts for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023.

The veteran was a part of the Rams squad that won the Super Bowl during the 2021 season. Jones was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft with the No. 103 overall selection. According to Pro Football Focus, Jones is tied for seventh in tackles for loss among linebackers through the first seven weeks of the season.

The Titans Just Made a Trade With the Rams for Ernest Jones in August

The linebacker was just traded to the Titans in August for essentially a late-round pick swap with the Rams. Tennessee gets good value in this deal by landing Baker along with a fourth rounder in the trade with Seattle.

“Seahawks are trading Jerome Baker and a fourth-round pick to the Titans for Ernest Jones. I had been told Seattle was looking for linebacker upgrades,” Sports Illustrated’s Corbin Smith said in a series of October 23, 2024, messages on X. “They just landed one. Ernest Jones turns 25 next month. He’s in the prime of his career and he’s the type of athletic, ball hawking linebacker Mike Macdonald prefers.”

New Seahawks Linebacker Ernest Jones Will be a Free Agent in 2025

Seattle faces a decision on Jones’ future as the defender is in the final season of a four-year, $4.7 million rookie contract. Jones is slated to be a free agent in 2025. Heading into the 2021 draft, here is how NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described Jones coming out of South Carolina.

“Two-down linebackers with limited speed and below-average athleticism aren’t exactly in vogue these days, but Jones has the field IQ and interior toughness to warrant consideration,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile of Jones. “He’s a blue-collar linebacker capable of handling the physical duties required of his position, but he will always have limitations in pursuit speed and coverage talent.

“He has a good feel for diagnosing blocking schemes and finding runners between the tackles, so a role as a backup inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense might be his best fit early on in his career.”

Seahawks Starting Right Tackle Abe Lucas Is Getting Closer to a Return

The Seahawks announced more good news as the team could be nearing the return of starting right tackle Abe Lucas. The offensive linemen has yet to play a game this season. Seattle announced that Lucas along with veteran tackle George Fant have been designated to return to practice.

“Lucas, who started 16 games at right tackle as a rookie in 2022, had knee surgery in January to address an injury that limited him to six games in 2023,” Seahawks.com’s John Boyle detailed in an October 23, story titled, “Abraham Lucas & George Fant Designated To Return To Practice, Sign CB Damarion Williams To Practice Squad.” “He was then placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp.

“Fant, who returned to Seattle as a free agent this offseason, opened the season starting at right tackle in Lucas’ place, but injured his knee in Week 1, landing him on injured reserve. Both players can practice for up to 21 days before the Seahawks will have to make a move to add them to the 53-man roster.”

The Seattle Seahawks have plenty of playmakers, but there continues to be speculation about the future of star receiver Tyler Lockett. The veteran is on a two-year, $29 million contract that runs through the 2025 season.

Seattle faces a decision as Lockett is slated to have a $30.8 million cap hit next season, per Spotrac. The Seahawks have a chance to move on from Lockett this offseason and would only take a $4 million cap hit by releasing the wideout.

CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards has the Seahawks taking Michigan Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland with the No. 20 pick in an October 16, 2024, mock draft for the 2025 event. With DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba on the roster, the NFL analyst pondered whether Seattle could add a tight end as a way to replace Lockett.

“Seattle’s coaching staff has familiarity with Colston Loveland,” Edwards wrote. “The tight end position was not overly important for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb in Washington, but I wonder if changes may be on the horizon with Tyler Lockett’s salary cap hit rising to nearly $31 million in 2025.”

The Seahawks & Tyler Lockett Agreed to Restructure His $29 Million Contract in 2024

Tyler Lockett

Heavy on Seahawks The Seahawks could look to keep Tyler Lockett in 2025.

This would not be the first time Lockett’s future has been called into question. So far, the two parties have found a way to keep Lockett in Seattle amid these ongoing NFL rumors. During the 2024 offseason, Lockett and Seattle agreed to a contract restructure in order to keep the star in the Pacific Northwest.

“WR Tyler Lockett signed a 2 year, $29.66M restructured contract with the #Seahawks that lowered his 2024 cap hit by $8.34M,” Spotrac noted in a March 17, message on X. “Lockett secures $12.66M guaranteed, all in 2024, making the $17M set for 2025 a veritable option.”

Michigan TE Colston Loveland Played a Key Role on National Championship Team

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald does have some familiarity with Loveland from his time as Michigan defensive coordinator. Loveland played a key role on Michigan’s national championship run during the 2023 season once Macdonald had moved onto the Baltimore Ravens.

The tight end posted 45 receptions for 649 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in 2023. The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has Loveland as his top ranked tight end ahead of the 2025 NFL draft and praised the playmaker as a “three-level receiving threat.”

“Described as the Travis Kelce of the Michigan offense by Jim Harbaugh, Loveland is a difference-making pass catcher because of an athletic skill set that lets him attack every level of the field,” Brugler detailed in a July 23, story titled, “2025 NFL Draft summer scouting: Is there a Brock Bowers-level prospect in TE group?” “Last season, Bowers led all FBS tight ends in catches of 10-plus (30) and 20-plus yards (13). But Loveland was not far behind — he ranked No. 2 in both categories with 29 and 12 catches (on nine fewer targets than Bowers).

“Watching Loveland’s pass-catching athleticism and ball skills, the first name that popped into my mind as a comparison was former Utah and current Buffalo Bills TE Dalton Kincaid. Loveland does most of his damage over the middle of the field, but I was impressed last season by his connection with quarterback J.J. McCarthy outside of structure.”

Loveland’s fit in Seattle could be a bit questionable given the Seahawks already have a number of tight ends on the roster, including Noah Fant and rookie AJ Barner. For now, the Seahawks are focused on attempting to win the NFC West this season.

Seattle Seahawks fans are buzzing about head coach Mike Macdonald being spotted with Pete Carroll. General manager John Schneider was also with the two coaches. The trio met up during the Rain City Showcase, an NBA exhibition game at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle between the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers.

The event took place on October 11, 2024, one night after the Seahawks’ blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Carroll was seen chatting with Macdonald in the viral video, but there is no audio of the interaction. The video shows Schneider taking a selfie alongside Macdonald and Carroll.

Macdonald’s Seahawks are in a three-game losing skid heading into the team’s Week 7 matchup versus the Atlanta Falcons. A lot of fans were saying similar things about Carroll’s interaction with Macdonald.

“I miss Pete. A lot,” One fan said.

“SPECIAL ADVISOR!!! SPECIAL ADVISOR!!!” Another person remarked.

Pete Carroll Is Attempting to Keep His Distance From the Seahawks

Pete Carroll

Heavy on Seahawks Former Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll is not ready to coach again.

Carroll has been mostly quiet since the Seahawks opted to fire the legendary coach on January 10. During an interview with KJR Seattle’s Dave “Softy” Mahler and Doug Baldwin, Carroll revealed that he is attempting to keep his distance from Macdonald and the team’s current coaching staff. Carroll also noted that he has no desire to return to the sideline at the moment.

“I could coach tomorrow,” Carroll said in the August 20 interview. “I’m physically in the best shape I’ve been in in a long time. I’m ready to do all the activities I’m doing and feeling really good about it.

“I could [coach], but I’m not really desiring it at this point. This isn’t the coaching [hiring] season. We’ll see what happens. I’m not really waiting on it at all. I’m going ahead. I’ve got other things that I want to do that I’m excited about.”

Pete Carroll Received a Strong Reaction From Seattle Fans

It looks like the Super Bowl winning coach is still plenty popular in the Pacific Northwest. The crowd in attendance at the former home of the Seattle SuperSonics gave Carroll a loud response when the coach was shown on the video screen.

“Pete Carroll is at Climate Pledge tonight and may have received the loudest cheer of any non-Sonics shown on the video screens,” The Seattle Times’ Tim Booth explained in an October 12 message on X.

Where Is Pete Carroll?

When Seattle initially moved on from Carroll, the team announced that the longtime coach would move into an advisery role. Yet, Carroll is noticeably absent from the Seahawks staff directory.

There is no sign that Carroll ever became an adviser for the team. What has Carroll been up to since the Seahawks moved in a different direction? Carroll has been spending more time with his family and pursuing other interests.

“Really, it’s the giving part of it that’s become even more true to my heart,” Carroll explained during an August 27,podcast interview on “Y-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth.” I want to give in every way that I can. So, that’s what this time is for, I think.

“It’s to get thoughts collected, ideas and creative opportunities connected so that we can really do some amazing things. So, all of that is kind of driving what I’m doing day to day now.”

Seahawks fans are hoping that Carroll was able to offer Macdonald some advice that can stop the team’s losing streak.

Heading into Week 7, the Seattle Seahawks bolstered their defensive line by striking a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris. Seattle is sending a 2025 sixth rounder to Jacksonville for the “standout” defender, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“Trade: The Jaguars are sending standout DT Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seahawks, per me, @TomPelissero, and @MikeGarafolo,” Rapoport detailed in an October 14, 2024, message on X. “A 2026 6th rounder goes to Jax. A veteran addition at a key spot — as Seattle loads up.”

Robertson-Harris spent the last three seasons as a starter for the Jaguars. Prior to the trade, the veteran played in all six games this season for Jacksonville but only has two starts. Robertson-Harris played in all 17 games for two straight seasons for the Jaguars.

New Seahawks DT Roy Robertson-Harris Is on a 3-Year, $21 Million Contract

Seattle inherits Robertson-Harris’ three-year, $21.6 million contract that runs through the 2026 season. The defender has a team-friendly $1.3 million cap hit this season.

This number jumps up to $6.6 million for the 2025 season. Seattle does have an out this offseason that would allow the team to release the defender without taking a dead cap hit, per Spotrac.

The Seahawks Are Dealing With a Litany of Injuries on the Defensive Line

Byron Murphy II and Myles Adams were among the defensive linemen sidelined in Week 6 with injuries. Leonard Williams has also been dealing with an injury to start the season and been in and out of the lineup.

Robertson-Harris offers great size on the Seattle defensive line at 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds. The defender’s contract combined with the late-round draft compensation given up makes this a low-risk move for the Seahawks. Robertson-Harris’ best season came in 2022 when the defender posted 45 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, 7 tackles for loss and 3 sacks in 17 starts.

“With 49 career starts under his belt, Robertson-Harris has played numerous positions during his time in Chicago and Jacksonville, offering the positional flexibility Seattle prefers in the trenches,” Sports Illustrated’s Corbin Smith wrote in an October 14, story titled, “How Will Roy Robertson-Harris Help Seahawks’ Defensive Line?” “In addition, he was previously a captain for the Jaguars and brings a quality locker room presence with him to the Pacific Northwest.”

There Could Be Tension Between DK Metcalf & Geno Smith

One of the concerning parts of the Seahawks’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers was some of the outbursts we saw from star receiver DK Metcalf. Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard pondered if there is friction brewing between Metcalf and Geno Smith.

“My own judgment, my own speculation without seeing all the tapes is when you lose like this, some of that friction and some of those sparks that those two – DK and Geno in particular – have had over the years starts turning into a little bit more,” Huard noted during an October 11 episode of “Brock and Salk.”

Regardless, the Seahawks have very little time to figure things out as the team faces the Atlanta Falcons on the road. Seattle has lost three straight games, while Atlanta is tied for the NFC South lead at 4-2.

The Seattle Seahawks were one of the first expansion teams in the NFL, making their debut in 1976.

Since that time, Seattle has established a rich playoff history while also collecting a massive group of very loyal, very loud fans often referred to as the “12th Man.” The Seahawks have made the playoffs 22 times, including multiple appearances in the 2000s and 2010s. The team won its first Super Bowl following a hugely successful 13-3 campaign in 2013.

Despite being a rather young team by league standards, Seattle has 13 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Several appear on the list below. It wasn’t easy trying to narrow down the best players to don the uniform, as the team has had several incredible talents on both sides of the ball.

From a pair of running backs to an unbelievable offensive lineman, here are our picks for the top 10 Seahawks players of all time.

*Note: All stats listed below are from each player’s tenure with the Seahawks only. All stats are from Pro Football Reference unless otherwise stated.

10. Shaun Alexander, RB

Alexander’s 28 total touchdowns in 2005 were an NFL record at the time, surpassing Chiefs legend Priest Holmes’ record of 27. He won the MVP award after that very productive season, becoming the first Seahawk to ever achieve this honor. The epitome of consistency, Alexander became the first player in NFL history to record at least 15 rushing touchdowns in five consecutive seasons. His 9,249 rushing yards remain tops in team history, and he has the record for most rushing scores, as well (100).

9. Marshawn Lynch, RB

  • Years as a Seahawk: 2010-2015, 2019

Shaking off numerous Saints defenders in the process, it became known as the “Beast Quake” run.

As noted, it simply didn’t get much better than “Beast Mode” in the playoffs. Lynch earned the moniker for his physical running style and memorable moments, as he was known for his ability to break tackles and wear down opposing defenses. He led the NFL in rushing touchdowns in both 2013 and 2014, and he was nearly impossible to stop in the red zone during his tenure with the Seahawks. Lynch racked up 6,381 yards and 58 TDs in his seven seasons with the team, also netting 970 yards and 10 scores in 13 playoff appearances (10 starts).

8. Richard Sherman, DB

  • Iconic performance: January 10, 2015 in the NFC divisional round, Sherman had 3 tackles, 2 pass breakups and an interception is Seattle’s 31-17 win over the Carolina Panthers.

A dominant cover corner, Sherman had 32 interceptions in 105 games during his time with the Seahawks. He led the league in INTs in 2013 with 8, and was a huge part of Seattle’s Super Bowl-winning season that year. A cornerstone of the Seahawks’ dominant “Legion of Boom” secondary, Sherman helped Seattle lead the league in scoring defense for four straight seasons (2012–2015). His high football IQ coupled with his incredible physical attributes made him a fan favorite, as did his playoff success. In 12 postseason games with the Seahawks, Sherman had 4 interceptions.

    • 9-time Pro Bowl selection (2014–2021, 2023)
    • Art Rooney Award (2023)
  • Iconic performance: Wagner went off against the Tennessee Titans in September of 2021, finishing with 20 total tackles (16 solo), 1.0 sacks and 2 QB hits.

Wagner’s leadership on defense helped the team win their first-ever championship in 2013. During his career with the Seahawks, he led the league in tackles three different times and amassed at least 104 tackles in each of his seasons with the team, which speaks to his consistency, durability and productivity. Wagner started 166 games for Seattle over his career, and he accumulated 1,566 total tackles, 79 tackles-for-loss, 11 INTs, 27.0 sacks and 84 QB hits.

6. Earl Thomas, Safety

    • Super Bowl Champion (2013)

    • 2-time second-team All-Pro (2011, 2017)
    • 6-time Pro Bowl selection (2011–2015, 2017)
  • Iconic performance: January 6, 2013, Thomas had 4 tackles, a pass breakup, and an interception in Seattle’s 24-14 win over Washington in the wild card round.

Another core member of the Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” defense, Thomas earned a reputation for his instinctive playmaking ability over his nine seasons, excelling in pass coverage. Also an efficient and hard-hitting tackler, his range in the secondary allowed the Seahawks to run their Cover 3 defense in an effective manner. Thomas started 125 games for Seattle, and he had 664 tackles (11 for loss), 28 interceptions and three defensive scores in his time with the team. Ever the diverse playmaker, he also served as punt returner at times.

5. Russell Wilson, QB

  • Years as a Seahawk: 2012-2021

    • 9-time Pro Bowl selection (2012–2015, 2017–2021)
  • Iconic performance: October 29, 2017, Wilson tricked and treated the Houston Texans to 452 yards and 4 TDs, including a game-winning score with 18 seconds remaining.

Wilson had a highly successful tenure with the Seahawks, establishing numerous franchise and NFL records. He led the Seahawks to their first-ever Super Bowl victory, beating the Denver Broncos, 43-8, after the 2012 season. Per Stat Muse, Wilson had the most wins (98) over his first nine years in the league than any other quarterback in NFL history. His 37,059 passing yards and 292 passing TDs remain tops on the team’s all-time list, and he’s also 5th on the team’s rushing leaders list, an incredible feat for a quarterback. Wilson was also an ironman during his Seahawks tenure, not missing a single game due to injury until 2021.

4. Cortez Kennedy, DT

Cortez Kennedy

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1990-2000
  • Awards:
    • NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1992)
    • 3-time first-team All-Pro (1992–1994)
    • 2-time second-team All-Pro (1991, 1996)
    • 8-time Pro Bowl selection (1991–1996, 1998, 1999)
    • Pro Football Hall of Fame
  • Iconic performance: September 20, 1992 in a hard-fought contest dominated by defense, Kennedy had 3.0 sacks on the road in a 10-6 win over the Patriots.

The classic example of an incredible player stuck on mediocre-to-terrible teams, Cortez Kennedy remains a Seahawks legend. Kennedy had one of his best seasons in 1992, recording 14 sacks as a defensive tackle, a feat that’s especially remarkable given that he was playing on a team that finished 2-14 that year. Despite the Seahawks’ poor record, Kennedy’s performance was so outstanding that he still won the prestigious award. Selected as a member of the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team, Kennedy amassed 58.0 career sacks with Seattle, which was a franchise record for most sacks by a DT at the time of his retirement.

3. Kenny Easley, Safety

Kenny Easley

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1981-1987
  • Awards:
    • NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1984)
    • 4-time first-team All-Pro (1982–1985)
    • Second-team All-Pro (1987)
    • 5-time Pro Bowl selection (1982–1985, 1987)
    • Pro Football Hall of Fame
  • Iconic performance: Easley had a career-high 3 INTs against the Chargers on October 29, 1984 in a 24-0 Seattle win.

One of the team’s greatest defensive backs ever, Easley was known for his hard-hitting style and savvy playmaking ability. He was instrumental in transforming the Seahawks’ defense during the early 1980s, with his physical style of play helping establish a defensive identity for the franchise. In his best season (1984), in which he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, he racked up 10 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. This helped lead the Seahawks to the AFC Championship Game. They lost, but his impact on the squad remains long-lasting.

2. Steve Largent, WR

Steve Largent

GettySeattle Seahawks legend Steve Largent.

  • Years as a Seahawk: 1976-1989
  • Awards:
    • NFL Man of the Year (1988)
    • First-team All-Pro (1985)
    • 4-time second-team All-Pro (1978, 1979, 1984, 1987)
    • 7-time Pro Bowl selection (1978, 1979, 1981, 1984–1987)
    • Pro Football Hall of Fame
  • Iconic performance: October 18, 1987 against the Detroit Lions, Largent snagged 15 passes for 261 yards and 3 TDs in Seattle’s 37-14 win.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Largent spent his entire entire career with the Seahawks. Known for his incredible catch radius, toughness and impeccable route-running, Largent remains the team’s best all-time receiver. He became the first player in NFL history to reach 100 career touchdown receptions, and he held franchise records for most career receptions (819), receiving yards (13,089), and receiving touchdowns (100) upon his retirement in 1989.

1. Walter Jones, OL

Walter Jones

GettyLegendaey Seahawks offensive tackle Walter Jones.

  • Years as a Seahawk:
  • Awards:
    • 4-time first-team All-Pro (2001, 2004, 2005, 2007)
    • 2-time second-team All-Pro (2006, 2008)
    • 9-time Pro Bowl selection (1999, 2001–2008)
  • Iconic performance: In the 2006 NFC championship against the Panthers, Jones paved the way for a running game that tallied 190 yards and two rushing scores in Seattle’s 34-14 win.

It’s rare when an offensive lineman tops a team’s list of all-time great players, but in this case, we think Jones is worthy. First, he played in 180 games, starting all of them. That’s an unbelievable accomplishment for an offensive lineman in any era. Then, there’s the utter dominance he displayed at the left tackle position. Per the Seahawks’ official website, in 5,703 pass block snaps, Jones allowed just 23 sacks while getting flagged for holding just nine times in 13 seasons. It simply doesn’t get any better than that.

Mason remained on the ground in pain after the play and shortly after headed to the locker room due to a shoulder injury. After receiving x-rays on his shoulder, Mason returned to the sideline with a little over two minutes to play in the half. He took one carry early in the second half but was sidelined for the remainder of the game due to that shoulder injury.

GettyDK Metcalf #14 of the Seattle Seahawks is forced out of bounds by Renardo Green #0 of the San Francisco 49ers during the third quarter on October 10, 2024.

A pass interference call in the end zone set up Seattle’s offense at San Francisco’s one-yard line with 21 seconds left in the first half. After two incomplete passes, Smith connected with WR D.K. Metcalf in the back of the end zone for what looked like the Seahawks’ first touchdown of the game. However, the instant replay showed that Metcalf’s toe was out of bounds. Seattle kicker Jason Myers made a 20-yard field on the ensuing play, and the Seahawks went into halftime trailing the 49ers 16-3.

4. Leviska Shenault Scores on 97-Yard Kick Return

The turnover occurred on a 1st-and-20 play from Seattle’s 15-yard line in which Smith threw a pass intended for Metcalf over the middle and it was intercepted by 49ers rookie cornerback Renardo Green. Green returned the intercepted pass 20 yards and set up San Francisco’s offense at Seattle’s 15-yard line.

Isaac Guerendo, who was the 49ers’ lead back in the wake of Mason’s injury, started San Francisco’s second-to-last drive of the game with a 76-yard run. That run, which was the longest of the game, set San Francisco up with a fresh set of downs at Seattle’s five-yard line. The drive was capped off two plays later when fullback Kyle Juszczyk ran the ball in the end zone, which gave the 49ers a 36-24 lead after a successful PAT with 1:17 left in the game.

The Seattle Seahawks made several roster moves ahead of the team’s Week 6 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Seattle placed starting pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu on Injured Reserve, which is a significant blow for a defense that is already shorthanded.

The Seahawks also signed former Arizona Cardinals safety Zeke Turner to the team’s practice squad. Turner is mostly known for his special teams play, appearing in 81 games over the last seven seasons. The veteran played for the Houston Texans this season before the team released Turner on October 1, 2024.

One week later, Turner was signed to the Seahawks practice squad. Seattle released rookie linebacker Devin Richardson to make room for Turner.

It is a bit of a homecoming for Turner who played collegiately for the Washington Huskies. Turner has experience playing both linebacker and safety.

Uchenna Nwosu’s Injuries Put the Seahawks in a Challenging Position Given His 3-Year, $45 Million Contract

The big news is Nwosu heading to IR, which means the pass rusher will miss at least four games. Nwosu signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seahawks that runs through 2026.

Unfortunately, Nwosu only played six games during the 2023 season as injuries continue to have a significant impact on his availability. Seattle also made a series of additional roster moves hours before kickoff against the Niners.

The Seahawks signed cornerback Artie Burns from the practice squad to the active roster. Seattle also released guard McClendon Curtis and activated defensive tackle Cameron Young from the PUP list.

The following players were inactive against the Niners on Thursday Night Football: cornerback Riq Woolen, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, linebacker Trevis Gipson, center Olu Oluwatimi, guard Sataoa Laumea, receiver Dareke Young and defensive end Myles Adams.

It was not all bad news as veterans like pass rusher Leonard Williams and safety Julian Love were active against the 49ers.

Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald Wants to Lean on the Team’s Rushing Attack

Regardless of injuries and roster moves, one thing Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has made clear is his desire to get star running back Ken Walker more touches. It is a sentiment echoed by offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb as well.

“You got to have more at-bats in the run game,” Macdonald told Seattle Sports’ “Brock and Salk” during his weekly radio show on October 7. “We got to give the ball to K-9 (Walker) more, period – Zach [Charbonnet] as well. There’s no going around it.

“There’s definitely, going back at it, some more opportunities as drives start to get going where we can kind of get back to normal operation and make sure we’re giving Ken the ball. So again, those (decisions) are going to vary from game to game, but we can’t be just handing the ball off to him five times. That’s a disservice to him.”

Seattle entered the team’s rivalry matchup against San Francisco as a 3.5-point underdog. It will be worth watching how all the roster moves impact the outcome. Macdonald made it clear there are no excuses for the Seahawks, despite numerous injuries and the short turnaround from Sunday to Thursday.

For the second straight game, the Seattle Seahawks will be playing on a short week, but head coach Mike Macdonald does not have time for excuses. Macdonald emphasized that “nobody cares” that the Seahawks have had less rest than their opponents in recent weeks.

“It doesn’t matter how hard it is,” Macdonald told reporters on October 7, 2024. “Nobody cares, we got to work harder. That’s the way it is. It’s an opportunity to go make it right in four days. That’s really what we need to focus on.”

The Seahawks faced the New York Giants in Week 5 with a sizable gap between the rest for both teams. Seattle played the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, while the Giants took on the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football in Week 4.

Up next, the Seahawks face the San Francisco 49ers on just four days rest as the two rivals square off on Thursday Night Football. The good news is the Niners will also be playing on four days rest.

Mike Macdonald Is Frustrated With the Seahawks Rushing Attack: ‘You Got to Have More At-Bats in the Run Game’

Seattle got off to a hot start under Macdonald by winning the team’s first three games but are now on a two-game losing streak. One of Macdonald’s main frustrations is over the Seahawks’ struggle to run the ball against the Giants. Ken Walker had just 5 carries for 19 rushing yards versus New York.

“You got to have more at-bats in the run game,” Macdonald explained during his weekly radio show with Seattle Sports’ “Brock and Salk.” “We got to give the ball to K-9 [Walker] more, period – Zach as well. There’s no going around it.

“There’s definitely, going back at it, some more opportunities as drives start to get going where we can kind of get back to normal operation and make sure we’re giving Ken the ball. Geno Smith on 49ers-Seahawks Clash: ‘We Got to Be Ready’

As for the Seahawks players, Geno Smith explained how he plans to attack the Week 6 matchup against the 49ers. Minutes after Seattle’s loss to New York, Smith was already looking ahead to facing the Niners.

“Lead by example, as I’ve always done,” Smith detailed his approach heading into the 49ers clash during his October 6 press conference. “Do what I always do, get better, work harder. Can’t wait for tomorrow. It’s another opportunity for me to work on my game, become a better leader and get the guys going, man. It’s early in the season.

“Obviously back-to-back losses [is] not the way we wanted it to happen, but it’s where we are. So, we got another opponent coming in, [and] we got to be ready.”

The Seahawks are a 3.5-point home underdog versus the 49ers in Week 6. Both teams are looking to bounce back from Week 5 losses.

San Francisco has had a surprisingly slow start to the season at 2-3. Despite the two-game losing streak, the Seahawks sit at 3-2 atop the NFC West standings.

The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back a familiar face as the team has agreed to terms with nine-time Pro Bowl offensive linemen Jason Peters. The veteran will begin his second stint with Seattle by joining the practice squad. It is the rare signing of a 42-year-old free agent who turns 43 during this season’s NFL playoffs.

Peters brings with him championship experience as part of the Philadelphia Eagles team that won the Super Bowl during the 2017 season. The veteran played eight games for the Seahawks last season, including two starts.

“Still going: Nine-time Pro Bowl OT Jason Peters is expected to sign with the #eahawks practice squad, per source,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero detailed in an October 1, 2024, message on X. “At age 42, Peters begins his 21st NFL season and second with Seattle, where he appeared in eight games (two starts) in 2023.”

The Seahawks Have Multiple Defensive Stars Sidelined With Injuries

Leonard Williams

Heavy on Seahawks Seahawks star Leonard Williams is among the key players dealing with an injury.

Seattle is unfortunately dealing with multiple injuries to key starters on both sides of the ball. The Seahawks are without Abe Lucas and George Fant, so Peters will provide the team a bit of depth at the position group.

Seattle sustained a 42-29 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. The Seahawks appeared to feel the effects on defense of being without all of the team’s top pass rushers. Edge rushers Boye Mafe and Uchenna Nwosu were both sidelined.

The interior of the Seahawks defensive line has also been ravaged by injuries with star Leonard Williams and rookie Byron Murphy II both sidelined against the Lions. Starting linebacker Jerome Baker also missed the team’s Week 4 matchup versus Detroit.

It will be worth watching to see if any of these players are able to suit up against the New York Giants in Week 5. It would not be a surprise if Seattle makes additional moves to add some defensive depth in the coming days.

Jason Peters

Heavy on Seahawks The Seattle Seahawks hosted Jason Peters for a free agent visit prior to signing the veteran.

Seattle hosted Peters for a September 24 free-agent visit. The Seahawks clearly felt comfortable with what they saw and opted to bring back a familiar player. Prior to the signing, Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard explained why he believed the franchise would ultimately sign the veteran.

“Well, they know Jason Peters,” Huard noted during a September 25 edition of “Brock and Salk.” “Jason Peters did some good things here a year ago. He knows how to play. He is a very large human.

“… I think this is a case of a veteran that knows the building, that knows the personnel. And for some still pretty young, green tackles, especially with George Fant out, I think this is some security.”

On the eve of the 2023 NFL draft, I had a chance to interview star quarterback C.J. Stroud. The playmaking signal-caller gushed about his meeting with the Seattle Seahawks. For context, Stroud grew up a Seahawks fan and wanted to play for the team.

See for yourself in the video below.

“It went amazing,” Stroud said of his meeting with the Seahawks during an April 25, 2023 interview with Heavy Sports. “I was a big Seahawks fan growing up. I loved the Legion of Boom. Richard Sherman is from LA, so that was somebody I really looked up to.

“Just liked the style of play, love Russell Wilson. Pete [Carroll] had some amazing things to say, had a great meeting with him. It went amazing, man. They’re a really good organization and they’re going to continue to do great things.”

In the end, the Houston Texans selected Stroud with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL draft, three spots ahead of when the Seahawks were on the clock at No. 5. Stroud signed a four-year, $36.2 million rookie deal with the Texans.

This is not exactly a haunting roster move for the Seahawks since technically the franchise did not have a chance to draft Stroud.

Given Stroud’s quick rise to NFL stardom, I thought the quarterback’s telling comments about the Seahawks were worth revisiting, even if it hurts.

Will the Seahawks Regret Not Making a Move for Star QB CJ Stroud?

Seattle had plenty of ammo to attempt to trade up for Stroud. The Seahawks also had the No. 20 pick to dangle in the Texans’ direction.

In the end, the Seahawks selected cornerback Devon Witherspoon at No. 5 and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at No. 20. Seattle appears pleased with their selections, but franchise quarterbacks are hard to find.

Stroud went on to lead the Texans to an unlikely playoff run in his rookie season, as well as make the Pro Bowl. Perhaps Geno Smith will prove he is a franchise quarterback in offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s new system.

Smith is already off to a hot start with the new Seahawks coaching staff. Through the first three games, Smith has thrown for 787 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while completing 74.8% of his passes.

C.J. Stroud Wanted to Play for the Seahawks

You may remember that the Seahawks even posted a selfie with Stroud as well as some of the other star quarterbacks leading up to the 2023 NFL draft.

What could have been? I’ll leave you with Stroud describing his meeting with the Seahawks.

“They liked the way that I can kinda process through plays and my IQ and how smart I can get through my reads and how I recall things and how I pick up on protections,” Stroud said at the time.

“They taught me three plays and some protections and I knocked it out the park. So, it was good for them to see how I can kind of take the field.”

Should the Seahawks have attempted to trade up to land Stroud? Let us know in the comments below.

In case you haven’t noticed, there is a new sheriff in town with Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. ESPN’s Brady Henderson just dropped a riveting longform story on the differences in Macdonald and the Pete Carroll era in Seattle.

One of the biggest changes is how the two coaches choose to hold players accountable. Macdonald threatened to cut an out-of-shape Seahawks player after failing an intense conditioning test during training camp.

“‘Macdonald was pissed,’ a source close to a player said,” Henderson wrote in the September 25, 2024, article titled, “How Mike Macdonald is guiding the Seahawks post-Pete Carroll.”

“Macdonald chewed out the players individually, according to a team source and a source close to a player, and then brought up the issue in front of the rest of the team in order to drive the point home: You owe it to everyone else to show up in shape,” Henderson continued.

“He told at least one of the players that he’d have been cut on the spot if not for the guaranteed money in his contract, another source close to one of them said.”

Mike Macdonald Got Onto to Seahawks Players for Skipping Signing Autographs for Fans: Insider

Mike Macdonald

Heavy on Seahawks Mike Macdonald is bringing accountability to the Seattle Seahawks.

The ESPN report did not specify who the player was, but it is safe to assume the player got in better shape. As the Seahawks approach the one-month mark of the season, Macdonald has yet to lose as the team’s head coach.

Seattle is about to face much more of a test with upcoming games against the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks are hoping this new approach can lead to sustained success. During a training camp practice, Macdonald chastised a group of players for not signing autographs for fans.

“One such moment came at the end of a practice early in training camp, when Macdonald saw a group of young players heading inside in defiance of instructions to sign autographs,” Henderson noted. “He caught up to one of them and gave him an earful, sternly ordering an undrafted rookie to the berm across the field, where fans were waiting.

“… Those who played for Carroll and worked under him say they never saw him dole out discipline that way, even behind the scenes.”

What Happened to Pete Carroll?

Pete Carroll

Heavy on Seahawks Former Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll is not ready to coach again.

In addition to the differing styles, the other thing that is clear is that Carroll is no longer involved with the team. As Heavy Sports took a look at weeks ago, Carroll revealed he is not working with the Seahawks despite the team initially insisting he would be an advisor. Carroll admitted he does not have a desire to coach right now and has been focused on spending time with his family along with non-football interests.

“I could coach tomorrow,” Carroll said during an August 20, interview with interview with KJR Seattle’s Dave “Softy” Mahler and Doug Baldwin.

The Seattle Seahawks are considering a rare move by potentially signing 42-year-old veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters. Seattle hosted the nine-time Pro Bowler for a September 24, 2024, visit, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

Two things worth pointing out with this news. Peters will turn 43 during the NFL playoffs. More important for the 12s, this news is likely a bad sign for starting right tackle Abe Lucas’ chances of returning to the field any time soon.

Peters is a familiar face as the two-time All-Pro played eight games for Seattle in 2023.

Seahawks Predicted to Sign Jason Peters Sooner Rather Than Later

Jason Peters

Heavy on Seahawks Jason Peters will turn 43 years old during the NFL playoffs.

Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard predicted that the Seahawks will sign Peters in the near future. The Seahawks are also dealing with an injury to tackle George Fant.

“I would expect he probably comes onto the practice squad, not for this week but I think sooner than later, as just a voice of wisdom, a sounding board in that room,” Huard said during a September 25 episode of “Brock and Salk.” “A little bit of what George Fant honestly was supposed to be, but unfortunately (with) George on the IR, you need somebody not only to be that wisdom but (who) happens to be a snap away that you can activate them from the practice squad.”

What would Seattle be getting by signing Peters? Huard outlined what Peters displayed last season during his stint with the Seahawks.

“Well, they know Jason Peters,” Huard noted. “Jason Peters did some good things here a year ago. He knows how to play. He is a very large human.

“… I think this is a case of a veteran that knows the building, that knows the personnel. And for some still pretty young, green tackles, especially with George Fant out, I think this is some security.”

What do you think 12s? Should the Hawks sign a vet who is approaching 43 years old?

It’s hard to imagine the Seahawks would be placing a lot of faith in Peters. Yet, his experience could be valuable as insurance on the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks made several roster moves ahead of the team’s Week 4 matchup versus the Detroit Lions, headline by the signing of former Super Bowl champion corner Tyler Hall. The veteran cornerback was a member of the 2021 Los Angeles Rams team, making four appearances during the season.

Seattle also signed defensive tackle Matt Gotel with Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II both dealing with injuries. Gotel is a familiar face as the defender was on the Seahawks practice squad last season. The veteran had a strong training camp for Seattle before sustaining an injury.

As for Hall, the corner played in 11 games (including three starts) for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. To make room for the new additions, Seattle once again released former second-round pick Marquise Blair.

It’s been a challenging week for Blair who was released heading into Week 3 only to re-sign to the team’s practice squad. The veteran safety has now been released by the Seahawks for the second time in less than one week.

Seattle also opened up a roster spot by placing running George Holani on the practice squad injured reserve. The Seahawks continue to deal with injuries at running back with star playmaker Ken Walker also sidelined with an abdominal injury.

The Injuries to Seahawks Stars Leonard Williams & Byron Murphy II Are Worth Monitoring

Leonard Williams

Heavy on Seahawks Seahawks star Leonard Williams is among the key players dealing with an injury.

The signing of Gotel is particularly interesting because it is unclear how severe the injuries are to Williams and Murphy. Both players left the team’s victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 and did not return. In addition to the Seahawks, Gotel has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and the XFL’s San Antonio Brahamas.

“I don’t know the severity of it,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald noted on Williams’ injury during a September 22, 2024, press conference. “There’s like a midsection thing. I don’t know if it’s ribs or whatever, but I think we got a picture of it. I don’t know what the results of that are, so we’ll see here in the next couple days.”

The Seahawks Are Showing an Interest in 9-Time Pro Bowler Jason Peters

More moves could be on the way ahead of the team’s primetime showdown in Detroit. The Seahawks also hosted nine-time Pro Bowl offensive linemen Jason Peters for a September 24 visit. Peters played eight games for Seattle last season.

“The Seahawks hosted veteran OT Jason Peters on a free agent visit,” ESPN’s Field Yates detailed in September 24 message on X. “The 42-year old played in 8 games with Seattle last season.”

This news is not a great signal for the potential status of starting right tackle Abe Lucas who continues to be sidelined with an injury. Unfortunately, Lucas has yet to play a game this season and only suited up in six games in 2023.

Seattle Seahawks fans are riding high as the team moved to 3-0 with a win over the Miami Dolphins, but star defender Leonard Williams’ injury is cause for concern. The Seahawks sustained two worrisome injuries with Williams and first-round pick Byron Murphy among the key players who left during the team’s blowout win versus the Dolphins.

Heading into Week 3, the Seahawks were already dealing with star running back Ken Walker being sidelined with an abdominal injury. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, who has yet to sustain a loss as Seattle head coach, revealed that Williams is dealing with a “midsection thing.”

“I don’t know the severity of it,” Macdonald said of Williams’ injury during a September 22, 2024, press conference. “There’s like a midsection thing. I don’t know if it’s ribs or whatever, but I think we got a picture of it. I don’t know what the results of that are, so we’ll see here in the next couple days.”

Murphy’s injury is also concerning given the rookie has already carved out a key role on defense. The pass rusher sustained a hamstring injury against Miami.

“Byron, he got a hamstring on a double team again,” Macdonald added. “Not sure the severity, so we’ll look at it this week.”

Seahawks Lions

Heavy on SeahawksThe Seahawks are underdogs in the team’s Week 4 matchup versus the Lions.

Williams has emerged as one of the Seahawks best players on the roster. Seattle struck a midseason trade with the New York Giants for Williams in 2023.

Williams hit free agency this offseason, but the Seahawks were able to re-sign the defender to a lucrative three-year, $64.5 million contract. It remains to be seen if either Williams or Murphy will be forced to miss time.

The Seahawks are 4.5-point underdogs versus the Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 4.

The Seattle Seahawks could be in the market for a reclamation project at quarterback. ESPN insider Dan Graziano labeled the Seahawks as one of the top potential trade partners for Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young after the team’s decision to bench the former No. 1 pick.

“Two days after benching Young just 18 games into his career for Andy Dalton, Panthers coach Dave Canales said the team isn’t trading Young,” Graziano wrote in a September 20, 2024, story titled, “2024 NFL trade deadline: Top candidates to move, team fits.” “But wacky things happen in Carolina and plans change quickly. If the Panthers decide they can’t fix Young, who knows at that point? Surely there are teams out there willing to take on a potential reclamation player who was the first overall pick in the draft 17 months ago.

“… It’s difficult to predict Tua Tagovailoa’s future in the wake of his third diagnosed concussion. But there is uncertainty in the short term and long term. Coach Mike McDaniel could potentially view Young as a player who could thrive in his quick-release offense. Don’t sleep on the Jets, Rams and Seahawks if Young were available.”

Could the Seahawks Make a Run at Trading for Panthers QB Bryce Young?

Bryce Young

Heavy on SeahawksBryce Young could get a fresh start with the Seahawks.

Seattle has already shown a willingness to take a chance on trading for a potential quarterback of the future. The Seahawks acquired Sam Howell in a deal with the Washington Commanders this past offseason. Young’s upside could be much more enticing given the quarterback is just 23 years old.

Geno Smith is playing in a pivotal season with the Seahawks that could go a long way in determining his future. It is a small sample size, but Smith has looked solid in new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s system.

Smith’s three-year, $75 million contract is slated to run through the 2025 season. The quarterback’s agent approached Seattle about a new deal this offseason, but the Seahawks declined.

Panthers QB Bryce Young’s Trade Value Remains a Mystery

Bryce Young

Heavy on SeahawksThe Seahawks could make a run at Panthers quarterback Bryce Young.

Young’s future in Carolina remains uncertain, but it is not a good sign if new head coach Dave Canales has already lost faith in the quarterback after two games. We’re less than two years removed from Young being the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Young’s team-friendly four-year, $37.9 million rookie deal is slated to run through 2026. It remains to be seen what Young’s trade value would be if the Panthers explore potential trades.

We witnessed the San Francisco 49ers fail to get more than a fourth-round pick for former No. 3 pick Trey Lance. This could be a buy low opportunity for the Seattle front office.

Could Seattle make a run at Young to potentially learn behind Smith? Let us know below if you are in favor of the Seahawks making a run at Young.

The Seattle Seahawks are moving on from safety Marquise Blair and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna. The two cuts were made to open up roster spots in order to sign speedy receiver Miles Boykin and running back Brittain Brown. These roster moves were finalized on September 18, 2024, just days before the team’s Week 3 matchup versus the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 22.

Blair will be the most familiar name for Seahawks fans. Seattle selected Blair in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft with the No. 47 overall pick. Blair played his first three seasons with the Seahawks before the team released the defender in 2022 ahead of the start of the season.

The veteran went on to sign with the Carolina Panthers, but only played three games for the team. Seattle reunited with Blair this offseason by signing the safety to a one-year deal in July.

The Seahawks later released Blair as the team finalized their 53-man roster ahead of Week 1 but were able to re-sign the defender to the team’s practice squad days later. Prior to his most recent release, Blair played 23 games with the Seahawks over his career.

The Seahawks Cut Quinton Bohanna, a Former Cowboys Starting Defensive Tackle

As for Bohanna, the veteran signed with the Seahawks to join the practice squad on September 4. Bohanna spent last season with the Detroit Lions but is best known for his time with the Dallas Cowboys.

The defensive tackle played in 27 games for Dallas from 2021 to 2022. Bohanna started nine games for the Cowboys in 2022, making 13 appearances.

The Seahawks Are 4.5-Point Favorites Versus the Dolphins

Seattle is looking to jump to a perfect 3-0 with a win over Miami in Week 3. The Seahawks are 4.5-point favorites in the matchup.

With Tua Tagovailoa on Injured Reserve, the Dolphins are expected to start Skylar Thompson at quarterback against the Hawks. Questions continue to surround Seattle running back Ken Walker’s status.

Walker has not practiced leading up to the Week 3 matchup. It would be a surprise if Walker is able to suit up against the Fins.

The Seattle Seahawks added to their running back room with the signing of former Las Vegas Raiders rusher Brittain Brown. The news comes as star running back Ken Walker continues to deal with an abdominal injury.

Walker has yet to practice heading into Week 3, and head coach Mike Macdonald would only say “we’ll see” as to whether the playmaker is able to get reps later in the week. Seattle also signed wide receiver Miles Boykin in the September 18, 2024, roster moves.

As a rookie, Brown played in six games for the Raiders, primarily being utilized on special teams. The 6-foot-1, 205 pound running back spent his first three college seasons at Duke. Brown went on to play his final two years at UCLA.

The running back’s best season came in 2021 when Brown notched 102 carries for 615 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. Brown also added 18 receptions for 129 yards.

New Seahawks Running Back Brittain Brown’s Strength Is Physicality & Breaking Tackles

Brittain Brown

Heavy on Seahawks The Seahawks are continuing to look for alternative plans with Ken Walker sidelined.

Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh are still expected to carry the load during Walker’s absence. Brown was selected by the Raiders in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft.

Heading into the draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein praised Brown for being a “physical runner with tackle-breaking potential.” Here’s how the analyst described Brown’s game prior to Las Vegas selecting the running back.

“Brown has a running style that lacks fluidity and the necessary quickness to stay ahead of NFL defenses,” Zierlein detailed in his pre-draft profile. “He sees it fairly clearly, but doesn’t have much elusiveness for the next level. He will run hard and can break tackles, but finding his own yardage will become tough for him. Brown’s lack of special teams experience and third-down value diminishes his chances.”

The Seahawks Will Face Dolphins Backup QB Skylar Thompson in Week 3

Miami is dealing with their own injury issues after placing star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on Injured Reserve. Skylar Thompson is expected to get the start at quarterback versus the Seahawks in Week 3. Despite the injury, the line is moving slightly in the direction of the Fins.

Seattle is a 4.5-point favorite versus Miami after opening at 5.5 earlier this week.

The Seattle Seahawks made a series of roster moves on September 18, 2024, highlighted by signing former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Miles Boykin. Seattle also signed running back Brittain Brown as star playmaker Ken Walker continues to deal with an abdominal injury.

The Seahawks released safety Marquise Blair and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna to make room for the new additions. These moves come just days before the team’s Week 3 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

After a standout career at Notre Dame, Boykin was selected by the Ravens with the No. 93 overall selection in the 2019 NFL draft. Boykin spent the last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing in all 17 games in 2023.

Boykin has the prototypical size of an NFL receiver at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. Here’s a look at some of Boykin’s highlights at Notre Dame.

New Seahawks WR Miles Boykin Ran a 4.42-Second 40 Time

Miles Boykin

Heavy on SeahawksThe Seahawks have a new speedy receiver in Miles Boykin.

Seattle had brought Boykin in for a September 17, 2024, workout along with fellow receiver Denzel Mims and quarterback Ian Book. For now, it looks like Boykin is the only player from this group that Seattle is signing. Heading into the 2019 NFL draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Boykin to former Detroit Lions star wideout Kenny Galladay.

“Lingering on his tape can cause excessive focus on his inconsistencies and areas of improvement, but projecting his traits with additional coaching makes more sense,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile of the receiver. “Boykin’s size, length and athleticism offers exciting potential as an outside receiver with mismatch potential, but he will have to learn how to counter press, improve his routes and become more competitive when the ball is in the air.

“His size won’t matter if he doesn’t learn to impose it on others. If that happens, he’ll become an eventual starter with a high ceiling.”

The Seahawks Signing Wideout Denzel Mims Now Looks More Unlikely

It is safe to assume that, for now, the Seahawks are choosing to sign Boykin over Mims. Seattle had to release two notable veterans in Blair and Bohanna to make room for Boykin. The team would need to release another player in order to sign either Book or Mims.

Mims was selected by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. The veteran is still searching for his first NFL touchdown.

Ahead of the team’s Week 3 matchup versus the Miami Dolphins, the Seattle Seahawks brought in a pair of receivers for a workout in Denzel Mims and Miles Boykin, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Seahawks also hosted former Notre Dame standout quarterback Ian Book for the same September 17, 2024, workout.

Mims was selected by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft with the No. 59 overall pick. Despite being a high draft pick, Mims’ NFL career has not gone quite as planned.

The playmaker’s best season came in 2020 when Mims notched 23 receptions for 357 yards. Mims has yet to record a receiving touchdown in the NFL.

The Jets traded Mims to the Detroit Lions in 2023, but the team released the wideout before the season with an injury designation. Mims has since had short stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Potential Seahawks Receiver Denzel Mims Ran a 4.38-Second 40 Time

Mims has the size and speed that NFL teams covet. The receiver is 6-foot-3, 207 pounds and ran a blazing fast 4.38-second 40-time at the 2020 NFL combine. Heading into the draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Mims to Tre’Quan Smith.

“Mims is a long-striding outside target with excellent height, weight and speed and an insane catch-radius,” Zierlein detailed in his pre-draft profile of Mims. “He’s a touchdown threat anytime he’s near the red zone, with the focus and body control to finesse and finish catches above the rim.

“He struggles to release and separate from physical press corners, and he doesn’t consistently compete and outwork opponents for positioning on contested catches. If the route work and intensity catch up with his natural athletic ability, he could become a dangerous ‘Z’ receiver in a vertical offense, but the floor might be lower than some teams are comfortable with.”

Myles Boykin Was Selected by the Ravens in the 3rd Round of the 2019 NFL Draft

The playmaker had a standout collegiate career at Baylor. Mims posted 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2019. Boykin was also a highly touted prospect in his own right.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Boykin in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft with the No. 93 overall pick. Boykin posted 19 catches for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2020.

The former Notre Dame standout receiver played the last two seasons for the Steelers. Like Mims, Boykin also has elite size at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds.

Seattle already has a crowded receiver room with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba leading the way. It will be interesting to see if the Seahawks opt to sign either wideout.

The Dolphins Plan to Start Backup QB Skylar Thompson vs. Seahawks

With Tua Tagovailoa headed to Injured Reserve, the Dolphins are expected to start backup Skylar Thompson at quarterback versus the Seahawks in Week 3. Miami is 1-1 and coming off a 31-10 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Seattle opened as a 5.5-point favorite versus Miami, but this line has now moved down to a 4.5-point spread.
