Lorenzo Carter Latest News
Playing Sunday against Big Blue

Carter (groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Giants. Carter finished the week with consecutive limited practices, and the veteran linebacker has done enough to be cleared to play Sunday. In the three games since the Falcons' Week 12 bye, Carter has tallied nine tackles (seven solo) and one forced fumble.
Questionable vs. Giants

Carter (groin) is questionable for Sunday's outing against the Giants, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Carter has played in all of Atlanta's matchups since the bye week, but it appears he's recently suffered a groin injury as he's landed on the injury report. The severity of the injury and whether he'll play versus New York both remain unknown, but there should be more indication prior to kickoff on Sunday.
Officially active for Week 11

Carter (concussion) is active for Sunday's game in Denver, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. Carter was placed on injured reserve Oct. 17 due to a concussion. He subsequently missed the required four games before being designated to return this past Wednesday and activated off IR on Saturday. Carter had been playing about half of Atlanta's defensive snaps each week prior to his injury.
Activated from injured reserve

The Falcons activated Carter (concussion) from injured reserve Saturday, Daniel Flick of SI.com reports. Carter was concussed in Week 6 and missed the required four games while on injured reserve. After practicing in full this week, Carter appears to have a good chance of suiting up Sunday against the Broncos. He recorded 15 tackles (11 solo) through the first six games of the season prior to his injury.
Practices in full Thursday

Carter (concussion) was a full participant during Thursday's practice, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. Carter remains on injured reserve and in the league's concussion protocols, but he could be close to returning from both after practicing without restrictions Thursday. If he's able to be cleared by an independent neurologist, Carter could be activated off IR and play against the Broncos on Sunday.
Practice window opens Wednesday

The Falcons designated Carter (concussion) to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports. A concussion led Carter to be placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 7. His 21-day practice window opened Wednesday, and he was estimated as a limited participant on the Falcons' injury report, per Tori McElhaney of the team's official site. Even if Carter were to practice in full this week, he'll need to clear the league's five-step concussion protocols in order to play against the Broncos on Sunday.
Lands on IR due to concussion

The Falcons placed Carter (concussion) on injured reserve Saturday, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports. Carter was unable to practice all week due to a concussion he sustained in Week 6 against the Panthers. His placement on injured reserve suggests Carter still has a long way to go before clearing the league's five-step concussion protocol. The 2018 third-round pick will be forced to miss at least the next four games, and he is eligible to return in Week 11 against the Broncos on Nov. 17. DeAngelo Malone, Arnold Ebiketie and James Smith-Williams are all candidates to see increased snaps on defense while Carter is sidelined.
Missing first game in Week 7

Head coach Raheem Morris told reporters Friday that Carter (concussion) won't play in Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks, Amna Subhan of the Falcons' official site reports. Carter has not practiced this week and has yet to pass the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, so it's no surprise he's been ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest. Expect James Smith-Williams and Arnold Ebiketie to see additional reps with Atlanta's first-team defense in Carter's stead.
Still listed as starter

Carter is listed as one of the starting outside linebackers on the Falcons' official depth chart, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports. The Falcons made a huge splash late in training camp by trading for Matthew Judon and signing Justin Simmons. Both newcomers are listed as backups on the depth chart, but that's expected to change as they get more acclimated to Atlanta's system. Carter and Arnold Ebiketie are expected to compete for the other starting outside linebacker spot when Judon is up to full speed.
