Peppers (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Chargers after logging a limited practice Thursday. A hamstring injury prevented Peppers from playing against the Bills in Week 16. The injury limited him in practice all week, so his availability for Saturday's game won't likely be known until the Patriots announce their list of inactive players approximately 90 minutes before the 1:00 p.m. kickoff. Marte Mapu and Jaylinn Hawkins would be in line to see more snaps at safety if Peppers is unable to play Saturday.
Jones (hip) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Chargers, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports. Jones will be sidelined for a second straight game due to a hip injury he likely picked up against the Cardinals in Week 15. He has been unable to practice since the injury, so which puts him in jeopardy of being sidelined for the Patriots' regular-season finale against the Bills on Sunday, Jan. 5. Alex Austin is slated to serve as New England's slot corner for a second straight game due to Jones' injury.
Brown (concussion) did not participate in Tuesday's practice. Brown played every single offensive snap during the Patriots' 24-21 loss to the Bills this past Sunday and wasn't diagnosed with a concussion until after the game. He'll have to clear the league's five-step concussion protocols in order to play against the Chargers on Sunday. If Brown isn't cleared, Cole Strange (knee) would be the next man up to start at center for New England.
Hasty (ankle) was a full participant at the Patriots' practice Tuesday. Hasty was unavailable for the team's Week 16 loss to the Bills due to an ankle injury, which he now appears to have recovered from. The 28-year-old will likely be back in his role as an option at third-down running back while also operating as a return-specialist for New England on Saturday versus the Chargers.
The Patriots designated Jacobs (concussion) for return from injured reserve Tuesday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Jacobs was placed on injured reserve in mid-November due to the concussion he suffered in a Week 11 loss to the Rams. His practice participation this week will indicate his availability for Saturday's game against the Chargers. Jacobs has mostly played on special teams and has accumulated four tackles (two solo) across nine appearances on the season.
Mapu tallied seven tackles (three solo), two pass defenses (including one interception) and one forced fumble during the Patriots' 24-21 loss to the Bills. Mapu registered his first interception of the regular season Sunday when he picked off a deep ball from Josh Allen intended for Keon Coleman midway through the second quarter. Mapu nearly logged his second interception on the Bills' next offensive drive when he broke up a pass from Allen intended for Dalton Kincaid. Mapu was a healthy inactive for the Patriots' last two games, but he played 42 defensive snaps due to the absences of Jabril Peppers (hamstring) and Marcus Jones (hip). Mapu will look to carry his momentum into the Patriots' Week 17 clash against the Chargers on Saturday, Dec. 28.
