Tillman (concussion) was a limited practice participant Thursday. Tillman has been slow to move through the NFL's concussion protocol after sustaining the head injury in a Nov. 21 win over the Steelers. He's sat out the Browns' last four games, and despite being a limited participant in both of the team's first two practice sessions of Week 17, he's far from a lock to clear the five-step protocol ahead of Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Jerry Jeudy (knee/shin) was also limited for the second day in a row while tight end David Njoku (knee) remained a non-participant, so the Browns could be without as many as three key pass catchers this weekend.
Thompson-Robinson (calf) was a limited practice participant Thursday. For the second straight day, Thompson-Robinson went down as a limited participant on the Browns' practice report while he tends to a calf strain that he said he sustained on the second snap of his first start of the season in last Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Bengals, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. While the injury didn't hinder Thompson-Robinson much as a runner (nine carries for 49 yards), he mostly underwhelmed while directing the offense, leading the team to just one scoring drive while completing 20 of 34 pass attempts for 157 yards and two interceptions. Despite the second-year quarterback's poor outing, offensive coordinator reiterated earlier Thursday that Thompson-Robinson is on track to make a second straight start Sunday versus the Dolphins, per Cabot. For his part, Thompson-Robinson told Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal that he doesn't expect the calf issue to slow him down against the Dolphins, but it won't be clear until after Friday's practice whether or not he heads into the weekend with an injury designation.
Winston (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Winston has been working through an injury to his throwing shoulder, which forced him to serve as the Browns' emergency third-string quarterback in Week 16 against the Bengals behind starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson (calf) and backup Bailey Zappe. Offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey said Thursday that Winston's injury will determine whether he'll be the top backup or emergency quarterback for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal.
The Browns placed Harris (elbow) on injured reserve Thursday. Harris suffered an elbow injury during the Browns' loss to the Chiefs in Week 15, which prevented him from playing against the Bengals in Week 16. The injury is severe enough for 2014 seventh-round pick to be placed on IR and miss the final two games of the regular season. Harris will finish the 2024 campaign with 37 tackles (18 solo), including 1.5 sacks, two pass defenses and one forced fumble across 14 regular-season games. Jowon Briggs is set to serve as the top backup defensive tackle behind starters Dalvin Tomlinson and Mike Hall for the last two games of the regular season due to Harris' injury.
Cleveland signed Proche from the practice squad to the active roster Thursday. Proche had been elevated from the Browns' practice squad to the active roster for the last three games, and over that span he caught two passes for 18 yards while adding 44 punt return yards. The 2020 sixth-round pick will now be on Cleveland's 53-man roster for the final two games of the regular season, and he could see more offensive snaps against the Dolphins on Sunday due to injuries to Jerry Jeudy (knee), Cedric Tillman (concussion) and tight end David Njoku (knee).
Njoku (knee) wasn't spotted at practice Thursday, Ashley Bastock of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Njoku was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's practice estimate, with the tight end's absence from Thursday's session putting the focus on what, if anything, he's able to do Friday. If Njoku is limited or out versus the Dolphins on Sunday, Jordan Akins would be in line to see an expanded role in Cleveland's Week 17 offense.
Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey noted Thursday that the team is preparing as if Thompson-Robinson (calf) will start Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Thompson-Robinson was estimated as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice report, but at this stage he's trending toward a second straight start this weekend. Dorsey also noted the team still is in the process of determining whether Jameis Winston (shoulder) will be the No. 2 or No. 3 QB versus Miami, assuming Thompson-Robinson starts, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
