Brown (ankle) logged a limited practice session Thursday. Brown hurt his ankle in Sunday's loss to Miami, and he was able to play only four defensive snaps in that contest. His ability to log a limited practice Thursday suggests the second-year safety could be available Monday against Detroit, though his practice participation level Friday and Saturday certainly bears monitoring. If Brown can't suit up against the Lions, Talanoa Hufanga and Malik Mustapha would likely serve as San Francisco's starting safeties, with Tashaun Gipson working in a rotational role.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday that Greenlaw (calf) will sit out the 49ers' final two games of the season, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports. Greenlaw spent most of the 2024 campaign on the reserve/PUP list while recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon that he suffered during the 49ers' Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Chiefs in February. He was activated for the 49ers' Week 15 game against the Rams, but he missed a portion of that game with leg tightness, then sustained a right calf injury in the first quarter of last week's loss to the Dolphins. With the 49ers eliminated from playoff contention, Greenlaw won't be rushed back to the field as the season winds down. The 27-year-old linebacker will enter the offseason as a free agent.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Guerendo (foot/hamstring) will be limited at Thursday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. As Shanahan projected Monday, Guerendo is returning to the practice field for the first time since Week 15 prep, which is a good sign after he sat out Week 16 in Miami due to foot and hamstring injuries. If Guerendo is able to make it through the week unscathed and suit up Monday against the Lions, he'd provide a boost for a 49ers backfield that will be without Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) in Week 17.
The 49ers placed Williams (ankle) on injured reserve Thursday. Williams had missed San Francisco's past four games with a left ankle injury, and now that the 49ers have been eliminated from playoff contention, he'll be shut down for the final two contests. Spencer Burford is nursing a calf injury, but he would presumably start at left tackle Monday against the Lions if he's able to play.
The 49ers placed Moore (quadriceps) on injured reserve Wednesday. Moore's season is over after he suffered a quadriceps injury during the team's Week 16 loss versus the Dolphins. The 26-year-old will now shift his focus to getting healthy for the 2025 campaign.
Burford (calf) is awaiting an MRI on a calf injury, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Burford picked up a calf injury in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins and he's now awaiting an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. Burford stepped in at left tackle against Miami when Jaylon Moore (quadriceps) was forced to exit the game. Moore, Trent Williams (ankle), and Aaron Banks (knee) all suffered season-ending injuries in the contest.
Warner totaled 11 tackles (six solo) during the 49ers' loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. Warner had a productive outing despite the loss as he was the team's leading tackler once again and has now racked up double-digit stops in four games this season. The 28-year-old has recorded 117 tackles (68 solo) so far this season, just 20 shy of his career-high total set back in 2021, which he'll have the chance to surpass during the team's final two games of the season
